Grant Writing and Scientific Writing Workshop
May 2- 4, 2012
The Center for Native and Pacific Health Disparities Research (CNPHDR) and the RCMI Multidisciplinary and Translational Research Infrastructure eXpansion (RMATRIX) of the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM) are pleased to sponsor a grant writing and manuscript writing workshop on May 2 to 4, 2012. The workshop, organized by Wendy Sanders, M.A., Assistant Dean for Research Career Development at the University of Maryland, is intended to provide a broad overview of these subjects to maximize success in both NIH-type grant applications and in biomedical scientific manuscript submissions.
The sessions are open to anyone interested in the workshop, but will specifically target new emerging investigators and in particular those investigators interested in health disparity research. The grant application process, held on the mornings of May 2 and 3, will provide an overview of grant writing and the grant submission process with a focus on resources available at JABSOM. The manuscript writing workshop, held on the am of May 4, is intended to assist in successful manuscript writing. Participants at the May 4 session on “Writing a Research Article” are encouraged to review the article on the “Science of Science Writing” at
There is no cost to attending the workshop, but registration is required.
Ms. Sanders will be available for one-on-one consultationfor grant writing in the afternoons on May 2 and 3, and for manuscript writing in the afternoon on May 4. If interested in this aspect, we ask that you indicate this on the registration form. Priority will be given to CNPHDR and RMATRIX emerging investigators.
