The undersigned may be pardoned for omission of any name of Executive/Retired Leader who attended the Blood Donation Camp.

We are also very happy to announce that inspite of their urgent organizational pre-occupation, Com. Soumya Datta, President, AIBOC, WBSU and General Secretary, SBI Officers’ Association, Bengal Circle, Com. Sanjoy Das, Secretary, AIBOC, WBSU and General Secretary, Bank of India Officers’ Association, Eastern Circle, Com. Debmalya Mitra, General Secretary, Allahabad Bank Officers’ Association, West Bengal and Com. Partha Chanda, Working President, AIUCBEF and Workmen Director on the Bank’s Board also made it a point to visit Blood Donation Camp. Presence of large nos. of members of our Association in festive mood made the occasion a memorable one.

At the outset, while welcoming the Executives of the Bank, members of fraternal organizations and members of our Association along with retired members, who had assembled in large numbers celebrations, all the blood donors and doctors & staff members of Lions Club, the undersigned while emphasizing the necessity of observance of historic ‘May Day’, expressed his concern at prevalence of deregulated working hours in banking industry in total contravention to basic demand of 8 hours work schedule around the globe. The undersigned informed that 151 units of blood were collected at last year’s Blood Donation Camp and also highlighted Association’s deep involvement in other social welfare activities besides holding of ‘Blood Donation Camp’ on auspicious “May Day’ every year since last 30 years and assured its continuance ever after.

Shri Shri Arun Kaul, Chairman & Managing Director conveyed his amazement at the enormous assemblage of working & retired officers of the Bank towards their commitment for noble cause. He directed an appeal to all the employees of the bank for respectfully delivering exemplary banking service to all the retirees whenever they visit bank’s branches/offices.

Shri Charan Singh, Executive Director, expressed his enchantment at stupendous involvement of the officers’ of the bank for the noble cause and articulated the relevance of blood donation with varied messages on colourful posters displayed at the venue hall. While referring to similar Blood Donation Camps at Bank of India at any time during the year, he showered his praises for organizing Blood Donation Camp on the auspices occasion of ‘May Day’.

Com. Dipankar Mukherjee, former Secretary, AIBOC, WBSU, deliberated in details on significance of ‘May Day’ in relation to observance of ‘International Workers Day’ across the world. He felt that organizing Blood Donation Camps during summer months was ideal time as the availability of blood is largely depreciated during this period.

Com. Sanat Ghosh, General Secretary, UCO Bank Staff Union, laid emphasis on demand for regulated working hours and felt that holding of Blood Donation Camp on ‘May Day’ escalates the sanctity of the noble cause.

Com. Kamal Chatterjee, President, UCO Bank Employees’ Association while acclaiming the commitment of Officers’ Organisation towards the social cause with uninterrupted regularity since last 30 years congratulated the officers for setting remarkable example worthy of being emulated by all the other organizations.

Shri K. Venkatachalam, General Manager & Circle Head, Kolkata, while wishing success for ‘Blood Donation Camp’ said that such noble endeavours would create harmonious relationships within the society and underscored the infallible achievement continuously for 30 years.

Com. Kaushik Ghosh, General Secretary, All India UBI Officers’ Association, expressed his bewilderment at such a massive show of social initiative by the officers of UCO Bank and felt that his attendance on the occasion was a learning process which he shall share with his comrades for involving his organization in UBI for similar noble cause.

Com. Alok Tirtha, General Secretary, Bank Employees’ Unity Forum urged upon all present with special mention of young entrants in the bank to take an oath on the historic day to protect hard earned rights of working class to peacefully demonstrate against the attacks of the management.

Com. D. Chanda, President, UCO Bank Pensioners’ Association asserted his support for the noble cause and congratulated the Officers’ Association for selfless commitment to the society.

Finally, our President, Comrade Soumen Roy Choudhury led his views by expressing an apprehension that in spite completion of cycle of events since1886 after passage of 130 years no worthwhile difference is being felt towards social security of employed class of population. Drawing reference to government employees being kept under temporary appointment for first 10 years of their employment under ‘Gujarat Model’ he felt that ‘Achhe Din’ promised by the Prime Minister of our Country is a farfetched possibility in the wake of anti-working class amendments proposed by present government at the centre in the Industrial Disputes Act coupled with a further proposition of merging other related Acts into one common charter for common applicability to all the sections of working class to give cascading powers to the government to curtail the trade union rights across all the sectors. In view of expressions of earlier speakers on regulated working hours he articulated his doubts whether anything has at all been achieved by the working class in spite of observance of May Day every year. Naming Com. Ashis Sen, former General Secretary, BEFI as his role model from whom he gained enormous knowledge on trade union intricacies, he raised his anxiety on the efficacy of the terms of recent wage agreement reached between the unions and the IBA. He cautioned the officer community on the fast changing scenario in the banking industry which demands adequate consciousness by responsible trade unions warranting joint struggle for protecting the identity of the institution and safety of the employees.

The opening ceremony concluded with vote of thanks delivered by Com. Ajoy Kumar Mondal, Joint General Secretary of our Association. Com. Subroto Mukherjee, Vice President, AOUCB-WB anchored the Inaugural Function.

The huge participation of the members recorded 205 registrations by willing donors, out of which only 140 could actually donate, as the rest were held back by the diligent team of doctors from the ‘Lions Club’ due to age/health factors. This year’s quantum of donation was shade lesser than collection of 151 units last year. The occasion took a commemorative look as more than 500 passionate participants assembled en bloc to express their pledge for the suffering humanity and our Organization as well.

Our 30th Blood Donation Camp has become a historic occasion as for the first time in the history of our Blood Donation Camps, a Top Executive in the rank of Executive Director, donated blood. Shri Charan Singh, our Executive Director donated blood in our 30th Blood Donation Camp, which enthused and inspired us to a great extent. We convey our special appreciation and thanks to Shri Charan Singh, our Executive Director for his empathy and compassion towards suffering humanity.

We take this opportunity to convey our thanks and gratitude to CMD, ED, Executives, our former leaders and retired comrades, leaders and members of fraternal organizations, leaders and members of pensioners Association for their benign presence in our 30th ‘Blood Donation Camp’. We also congratulate our team of dedicated leaders and workers as well as large numbers of members for assembling at large at the ‘Blood Donation Camp’ to reaffirm their faith and commitment to the cause of the suffering humanity and our Organization as well. Of course, last but not the least, we gratefully acknowledge the selfless act of all the donors and also all those who voluntarily registered their participation for the noble cause but were unfortunately rejected on health grounds.

We sincerely appreciate and expect that the social service marvel of our Association shall continue unhindered for long time to come.

With Warm greetings

Comradely yours,

Dipankar Mitra

General Secretary
