REGISTER OFFICES in Jersey

There are two register offices in the Island, both located in St Helier:

Which register office do I need?

The Office of the Superintendent Registrar at 10 Royal Square is the only register office in Jersey where weddings and civil partnerships can take place. It is where the legal arrangements – for giving notice and collecting a licence - for all civil weddings/civil partnerships and all non-Anglican marriages in the Island are made.

The Parish of St Helier Registrar’s Office is where all birth and death, marriage and civil partnership events within the parish are registered (that is, entered into the relevant register).

You will need the Office of the Superintendent Registrar at 10 Royal Square

  • If you wish to arrange a civil wedding/civil partnership or a non-Anglican wedding in Jersey
  • If you need a Certificate of No Impediment for a marriage or civil partnership taking place outside the Island
  • If you wish to order a copy certificate from a register of birth or death, marriage or civil partnership in any parish
  • If the Royal Court has made an Adoption order, a copy certificate from the Adopted Children Register is only available from the Office of the Superintendent Registrar
  • All ‘full’ certificates currently cost £20
  • A ‘short-form’ birth certificate costs £5
  • If you wish to make an enquiry on any legal matter relating to the business of the service or to make a search of the registers held there.

You will need the Parish of St Helier Registrar’s Office at 12 Seale Street (located at the side of the Town Hall)

  • if you need to register the birth of your baby born in the parish of St Helier (whether at the Jersey General Hospital, at homeor anywhere in the parish)
  • if you need to re-register the birth of your child under one of several articles of the Marriage and Civil Status (Jersey) Law 2001
  • in some circumstances, you will be asked to go to the Office of the Superintendent Registrar as well so it is advised you should go to the St Helier Register Office before 12.00 Noon at the latest as the Office of the Superintendent Registrar closes at 12.30pm
  • if you wish to order a replacement certificate for a birth, marriage or death which happened in St Helier from 1 August 1842 to date
  • All ‘full’ certificates currently cost £20
  • A ‘short-form’ birth certificate costs £5
  • if you wish to enquire about a recent death in the parish of St Helier
