ATHLETIC TRAINING ROOM RULES AND PROCEDURES

The athletic training room is used as a base for all of our athletic teams and is therefore a very busy location. We ask that athletes not needing to see the athletic trainer stay out of the room. Rules are posted and all athletes will be held accountable for their behavior.

  1. Athletic Training Room Hours:

2:00 pm - 6:00 pm Monday – Friday

OR UNTIL THE CONCLUSION OF VARSITY PRACTICES

PLEASE REFER TO THE HANDBOOK FOR SPORT SPECIFIC COVERAGE GUIDELINES

  1. Injury Reporting. It is EXPECTED and REQUIRED of all athletes to report any and all injuries immediately.

Corey will determine seriousness, direct treatment and referral and follow up with the coaching staff. If athletic trainer is not present, Coaches will render necessary first aid and report the injury to Corey via telephone voice mail, text message or email. Understand that Corey may be at a Varsity Event and not always at school in his office. Know that as a coach it is your responsibility to assess the situation and decide if “911” needs to be called. However, always call Corey with new injuries or questions. Athletes are then expected to report to Corey on the next school day. Saturday injuries should be reported ASAP on Monday.

  1. Reporting For Treatment. Athletes who are injured are REQUIRED and EXPECTED to report for treatment. Missing treatment will be reported to the coaches. NO ONE misses practice without the consent of Corey, a physician or a coach. Treatments and Rehab will be documented each day for all athletes.
  1. Medical Clearance and Return to Play. With injuries, which require referral and treatment from a physician, NFHS, CHSAA and Colorado Law REQUIRE all athletes to be cleared, in writing, by the treating physician. This clearance must be in Corey’s possession before the athlete is allowed to return to participation. This rule is strictly enforced in all circumstances. Parental clearances are not acceptable unless the parent is the treating physician. The Athletic Trainer and Team Physician reserve the right to not allow any medical clearance provided under any circumstances.
  1. Taping Procedure. We only tape what we treat. If an athlete has a previous history of injury it is strongly recommended, and in some cases required, that he/she wear braces. Those athletes with no injury history are also encouraged to wear ankle braces. Athletes will also be provided with rehabilitation programs.
  1. Transportation of Injured Athletes: UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCESSHOULD COACHES OR OTHER ATHLETESTRANSPORT ANYONE WHO HAS BEEN INJURED.

7. First Aid Kits and Supplies: Each coach will be issued a first aid kit with BASIC supplies to treat simple injuries. Please
inform the Athletic Trainer if you need your kit re-stocked. Kits are expected to be returned at the conclusion of the season. Please use these kits and don’t rely on other school athletic trainers so supply you with tape. If kits are lost or ruined the team it was given to will be required to purchase a new one. Either Corey will do this a bill your team or you can buy one.

8 Radio: Coaches will also be issued a two-way radio for communication with the Athletic Trainer. Please make a reasonable attempt to keep the radio on your person at all times. If the radio is not on the coach they will be asked to call Corey at 303-552-8520.

9. Concussions: Any and all athletes displaying signs and symptoms of concussion must be removed from practice or play and referred for medical evaluation. All athletes must be cleared by a physician AND complete a Return to Play Program supervised by the Athletic Trainer. Please see the Athletic Trainer for more details on this policy. Each coach will be provided with a copy of the guidelines upon request. The Athlete must also be cleared from by their teachers. Their concussion symptoms cannot jeopardize their school work and all school work must be caught up on.

10.Lightning: We will use a "see it flee it, hear it fear it" policy consistent with NFHS and NCAA guidelines.

IMMEDIATELY upon seeing lightning or hearing thunder, EVACUATE and seek shelter indoors; this shelter must be a grounded building meaning that it has plumbing or electricity to it. 30 minutes must pass from the LAST flash to bang before practice or game can resume. Please direct any questions to the Athletic Trainer.
