History of Service

The service provides direct work with children and young people that go missing, those who are involved in or at risk of sexual exploitation Much of our work is with high risk and complex cases.

The key components of our work are as follows:

·  Promoting recovery

·  Supporting parents and carers to strengthen relationships and enable positive, long-term change

Objectives of Service

The Missing service works alongside a number of local authorities completing Return Home Interviews (RHI’S) for young people that have gone missing. These offer the young people the opportunity to talk about what happened while they were missing but also think about why they went missing and exploring support things that can be put in place to help them to keep safer. The CSE service works with young people that are at risk of sexual exploitation and the families that they live with. Referrals come through the local authority and so are high risk complex cases.

Initial Specific Responsibilities

The project worker will be required to work for the Missing service in Wandsworth. The office base will be in Zone 2 and there will be the need to travel.

The project worker will be expected to provide some training and presentations with support around missing and other related topics to other professionals, as well as some group workshops with young people.

Supplementary Information

The project worker will be based in Wandsworth borough council offices and the majority of the RHI’s are in Wandsworth area.

The project worker needs to have some knowledge about young people at risk of CSE and Missing and the effects on young people and their families. They should have some experience of working with vulnerable young people.

Communication is a skill necessary for this work and the project worker will need to be able to communicate with a number of professionals to ensure appropriate information is shared as well as effective communication with children, young people and their parents and carers.

The project worker needs to be able to confidentially and professionally challenge other professionals and to provide some guidance and consultation when required. The practitioner must have experience in identifying and acting on safeguarding issues.

Informal supervision is available during working hours and formal supervision is provided at Stepney Green once per month as well as attending monthly team and practice meetings.
