The 2016 R.A.T. Card will continue to provide supported travel on local bus services at half the adult fare for those students who are attending college for the second year of their selected course, where they had a RAT card for the academic year 2015/2016. .

The 2016 R.A.T. Card: Eligibility criteria
To be eligible for the 2016 R.A.T. Card you must be:
§  Aged 17 to 18 years at the time of application – you will need to provide proof of age.
§  Returning to college to complete your second year
§  Residing in the Borough of Redcar and Cleveland – you will need to provide proof of address
§  Attending a full-time course / learning programme up to and including Level Three at a recognised sixth form, college or work based learning provider based in Redcar and Cleveland, Middlesbrough, Stockton or Hartlepool - you will need to provide proof of enrolment on a full-time course / programme
§  Live more than three miles from the learning centre or college.
The 2016 R.A.T. Card: Conditions
§  The 2016 R.A.T. Card will be valid from the date of issue up to the end of the current year of your course / learning programme, typically up to June / July 2017.
§  You are are 17 to 18 years of age - Proof of age and address will be needed
§  You live more than three miles from the centre you are attending
§  You will pay the R.A.T. Card fee of £25.00 on application (which will be returned if your application for a R.A.T. Card is unsuccessful)
§  You will pay the replacements fee of £25.00 for lost / damaged R.A.T. Cards. Payment of the £25.00 fee does not guarantee that a R.A.T. Card will be issued.
§  You will carry your R.A.T. Card at all times when travelling which must be presented to the bus driver at the point of travel when paying the reduced fare
§  R.A.T. Cards are not valid on trains or taxis and will only be accepted by approved operators of registered local bus services. For a list of approved routes, please check our website
§  You will only be asked to pay a reduced fare on production of your RAT card which is currently half the adult fare. The Authority retains the right to review this rate as necessary
§  You will only use your R.A.T. Card for a single journey at reduced fare to college / school in the morning and a single return journey home again that day.
§  R.A.T. Card journeys must be made before 6.00pm.
§  R.A.T. Cards are only valid Monday to Friday during school / college term time. They cannot be used for travel during the evening, at weekends, during school / college holidays or over any bank holidays
§  R.A.T. Cards are not valid for travel to work experience placements or for visits for example to prospective employers / universities / colleges etc
§  R.A.T. Cards cannot be used in conjunction with any other travel offers available from bus operators
§  The Authority will not back-date any payments or reimburse any fares due to late or incomplete applications and applications may take up to ten working days to process.
§  There is no cash alternative for the R.A.T. Card
§  Any abuse of the scheme may result in withdrawal of the R.A.T. Card
§  The Authority reserves the right to withdraw any support offered based on false or fraudulent claims

§  Payment of £25.00 – please do not send cash through the post - cheques for £25.00 to be payable to Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council – please write your name and date of birth on the reverse of the cheque.
