JOB PURPOSE
·  To undertake assessments, assess need, agree and review treatment plans, and provide non-medical prescribing within the Redcar and Cleveland Clinical Treatment Service
·  To deliver prescribing clinics, in partnership with Recovery Coordinators and Brief Intervention Practitioners
·  To ensure that the service’s key elements (medically assisted recovery) are recovery-focused, integrated, effective and delivered to a high standard
·  To assist in the clinical leadership, development and implementation of Lifeline’s Redcar Clinical Service
·  To ensure continuity of care during the transition to the new Lifeline Clinical Service, including direct provision of recovery-oriented clinical interventions
·  To assist the MAR in the auditing of clients in line with agreed criteria to assist in clinical development
·  To assist the MAR in the provision of clinical leadership on behalf of Lifeline project at developmental forums relating to the Redcar Clinical service
·  To assist the MAR provide expert clinical guidance to pharmacies and health partners within the Redcar Clinical service
·  To work collaboratively with patients and clinicians to develop clinical recovery plans, including plans for community detoxification, and to undertake non-medical prescribing
·  To promote the Clinical Treatment Service to colleagues and partners, in order to ensure that medically assisted recovery is considered as an option for all suitable users of local treatment services
·  To work within a strengths-based, recovery-orientated, change and outcomes focused approach that promotes service users and communities as responsible co-producers of health, well-being and recovery

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Service provision:
·  To provide healthcare assessments, reviews and non-medical prescribing to individuals in the Clinical Treatment Service
·  Assist the MAR in auditing the delivery of clinical services in across Redcar and Cleveland.
·  Assist the MAR in ensuring adequate cover of clinics across Redcar and Cleveland and to liaise with external agencies where clinical advice is required i.e pharmacies.
·  To establish individual need, discussing all treatment options (including non-pharmacological treatment and in-patient detoxification where indicated) and potential side effect and overdose risks with each service user
·  To cooperate with the Case Management function on comprehensive recovery assessment and review
·  To provide full information on the benefits and risks of medically assisted recovery treatment options
·  To carry out clinical tests, including blood tests
·  To ensure high standards of clinical practice in accordance with all relevant national and local guidelines
·  To collaboratively develop and implement effective and flexible clinical systems and structures that are responsive to individuals with different levels of risk, complexity, severity and strengths, in order to ensure that treatment is optimised
·  To develop and maximise service users’ personal strengths, social networks and recovery capital (social, physical, human and cultural) at the change, completion and re-integration/recovery support stages
·  To work with Recovery Coordinators to ensure that appropriate wrap-around and post-detoxification support is available to all clients
·  To deliver the support activities and interventions alongside external agencies, peers and volunteers
·  To identify and support access to resources to support recovery within the community
·  To fully inform service users about their recovery/treatment options, involve them in decisions and consent, and encourage them to take opportunities to achieve a sustained recovery
·  To support ‘visible recovery’ within the service, promoting exit from treatment to service users at all stages of the recovery pathway and working with dedicated recovery individuals
·  To ensure individuals’ personal strengths/recovery capital, including social capital and networks, continue to be built during the clinical phase
·  To ensure that recording of clinical case notes is of a high standard and is undertaken within the required timeframes
·  To support initiatives within the team (including the establishment of lead roles) in order to support service users with specific needs relating to gender, age, sexual orientation or ethnicity
·  To ensure the Clinical Treatment Service is fully integrated with other aspects of the local treatment system by working closely with the external partner agencies to align interventions within the recovery plan, including clinical appointments with recovery key-working sessions
·  To support and deputise for colleagues within the Clinical Treatment Service as required to maintain high quality coverage of healthcare support
·  To work collaboratively and proactively with medical providers, Recovery Coordinators and other colleagues, to ensure that services are fully coordinated and are working collectively towards the achievement of recovery goals and positive outcomes for each individual client.
Performance and personal management:
·  To work flexibly to provide adequate cover for all aspects of the Clinical Treatment Service
·  To work alongside and provide support and supervision to volunteers and peer mentors as required
·  To be a contact for advice and support relating to clinical treatment for Recovery Coordinators, primary care employees, service users and colleagues
·  To work within, and contribute positively to, an appropriate culture of established values and expectations, embracing and implementing change
·  To work collaboratively, creatively and flexibly to empower, challenge and change service users
·  To be responsible for performance management at an individual level through: self-management; delivery of goals and tasks set; delivery of contractual requirements, targets and outcomes; and reporting progress

·  To comply with operational management systems of supervision, objectives, appraisal and induction
·  To develop competencies to effectively deliver a range of interventions required at the preparation/change/engagement (clinical) phases, undertaking training matched to the role as required
·  To comply with data collection procedures and reporting to ensure effective recording of performance monitoring, outcomes, and service user information, including identifying areas of attrition
·  To adhere to the implementation of risk management procedures (including child and adult safeguarding protocols), taking personal responsibility for keeping up to date on the requirements of these procedures
·  To contribute to the continuous improvement of quality and performance of clinical services
Service development:
·  To take a lead in specific targeted service developments as required
·  To form productive working relationships with external agencies and professionals, existing and new, to ensure that service users have access to a wide range of recovery and community resources
·  To provide service users with ongoing opportunities to consult on service development, working jointly to develop and deliver services, as appropriate, under the direction of management
·  To contribute to the sustainability of Lifeline’s growth through the delivery of best practice and quality services and achieving targets and lasting outcomes for its beneficiaries
·  To ensure an appropriate level of strategic awareness at industry, local, organisational and service levels.

·  To attend meetings at appointed times, maintain professional personnel and service user records and meet deadlines
·  To work flexibly across the whole service, including providing duty, late working and weekend cover as required

·  Raise drug and alcohol and recovery awareness within the community, sharing knowledge and experience by developing packages that train and educate community and other interested groups
·  To assess risk and safeguarding issues, undertake risk and need assessments when appropriate and report any potential risk and safeguarding issues to ensure staff, service users and children are protected

Recovery Nurse (non-medical prescriber)

Person Specification

Experience (through paid or voluntary work)

·  Experience in providing a range of evidence-based treatment interventions to substance misusers in a community-based setting

·  Experience of leading on specific areas of service development or initiatives to improve service delivery within a health and/or social care setting

·  Experience of applying detailed knowledge of detoxification from drugs and alcohol

·  Experience of using recognised psychosocial techniques in the treatment of substance misuse

·  Independently mobile with the ability to move quickly across the area covered by the service

Knowledge

·  An in-depth understanding and knowledge of the harmful effects associated with drug misuse in relation to health, social welfare, housing, employability and personal relationships

·  An understanding/awareness of current national policies on substance misuse and the strategies that influence the priorities of treatment services

·  Knowledge of the developing recovery agenda in the substance misuse field

·  An in-depth knowledge and understanding of the risks and benefits of treatment options, including community detoxification and current guidance for the medical management of detoxification from drugs and alcohol

·  Knowledge and understanding of policies related to the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults and how these influence practice

·  Knowledge of models of recovery

Qualifications and Training

·  Registered nurse RMN or RGN

·  Nurse Independent / Supplementary Prescriber

·  Training in anaphylaxis (desirable)

·  Relevant training/education in BBV’s/Viral Hepatitis

·  Phlebotomy qualification (desirable)

Skills and abilities

·  The ability to quickly establish rapport with service users and to use assertive techniques to engage them in treatment

·  The ability to undertake accurate and comprehensive assessments of need, identifying levels of risk, recovery potential and to establish immediate and longer term recovery goals

·  Ability to use a range of psychosocial techniques and approaches, including programmes of structured and interventions, which are effective in facilitating progress towards recovery-focused goals

·  Ability to produce written reports to a standard that is acceptable to a range of audiences (internal and external)

·  Ability to maintain accurate and detailed case records within given deadlines

·  Ability to use data management systems for the effective recording of performance and service user data.

·  Flexibility of approach to problem solving and goal achievement that demonstrates an ability to use a range of treatment and recovery-enhancing resources

·  Commitment to working collaboratively with co-workers, colleagues in other agencies, and external services to facilitate positive recovery outcomes for service users
