Recording Instructions for AP
Computer Set-up
Open the computer
Log on to your account
Microphone Set-up
Plug the microphone into the USB port and turn it on (green light should be glowing)
Go to the pull-down menu under the apple and choose Systems Preferences
Choose sound icon
Select a device for sound input (highlighted in gray)
Choose USB microphone and be sure sound is up halfway
Quit Systems Preferences
GarageBand Set-up
Open GarageBand (guitar in the dock at the bottom of the screen)
Click ‘OK’ if you get a general screen
Choose Podcast icon (if not automatically popping up: go to file, new podcast)
Name your project with your name: example: StacyPhillips
Save the project on your desktop, not GarageBand (click on arrow to scroll down)
Click Create
Select Male or Female Voice
Recording
Press red button to record
Press the red button or the spacebar to stop recording
*Speak directly into the microphone at normal volume
*If you hear a ticking sound: go to control and click metronome to turn off
Hearing what you recorded
Drag the cursor (red line) to the beginning of what you have recorded and press the spacebar
If you want to keep it proceed to sharing
If you want to delete it click on the purple voce segment and hit the delete key
Sharing as an MP3 File
Go to ‘Share’, ‘Export Podcast to Disk’
Choose MP3, High Quality (Not AAC)
Click ‘export’
Save MP3 file to the desktop (choose desktop when saving)
Follow instructions for sharing your MP3 file
Drop the file in your class synergy dropbox (see below)

Exit out of GarageBand
Click on Safari
Go to tesd.net on the internet
Click on ‘Schools’ and scroll down to ‘ConestogaHigh School’
Click on ‘Synergy Share’ on the left-hand side
Type in your username and password
Click on your class dropbox
Click ‘Upload’
Click browse and select the MP3 file on your desktop-double click it
Click ‘Upload’
Click ‘Finish’
Dropping to Miss Phillips’ T-drive: (Plan B if Synergy does not work)
Exit out of GarageBand
Click on ‘Go’ at the top of the screen
Scroll down to ‘connect to server’
Type: smb://chsserverfor the server address
Click ‘Connect’
Click ‘Class’-click ‘OK’
Click ‘chsserver’ on the left-hand side
Click ‘Class’
Find the folder Phillips
Drag and drop the file to your class period

Sharing to a CD (for AP exam only)
Go to Share, Burn to CD
Insert your CD
Select Burn Song to CD
Finishing
Save your project to your account
Check your CD or MP3 file to make sure it works
Close Garage Band
Sign out, unplug the microphone and close the computer
