Advice for principals:

Record of School Achievement (RoSA) – Overview of requirements for 2016-2017

The Record of School Achievement (RoSA) is of specific use to students leaving school prior to the Higher School Certificate (HSC). This includes students who have a transition plan to leave before the HSC. The RoSA may also be available to students who prove ineligible for this credential.

Students planning to leave school before the HSC may need additional opportunities to prepare them to make a good transition to the next stage of learning, training or employment, or a combination of these. Prospective employers may request to see the student’s RoSA.

Key considerations for schools include the following:

  • BOSTES information about the RoSA is provided to RoSA candidates and relevant school staff from BOSTES at the Assessment Certification Examination (ACE) website and NSW Students Online. It is good practice to provide some information in hard copy such as the Leaving School and the RoSA and Optional literacy and numeracy tests from the NSW Students Online website.
  • It is also good practice to hold information sessions for students and their parents to ensure they understand the eligibility requirements and optional opportunities that are part of the RoSA.
  • Courses of study offered by the school for RoSA candidates are being taught in accordance with the requirements of NSW syllabuses and related documents.
  • School procedures are in place to ensure that all RoSA candidates at the school:
  • are eligible for the RoSA
  • are entered into the correct courses of study
  • sign their RoSA Confirmation of Entry form
  • have satisfactorily completed HSC: All My Own Work program (or its equivalent) where entered for one or more Preliminary HSC courses.

Schools are strongly encouraged to enrol in BOSTES up2now learning portfolio and, if students are leaving school, the optional BOSTESonline Literacy and Numeracy tests.

  • Ongoing monitoring of RoSA candidates is an allocated responsibility in the school to ensure RoSA candidates maintain their eligibility for the RoSA until they leave.
  • School requests for the RoSA credential for students must be placed with BOSTES before the individual student signs out of school.
  • Schools advise RoSA candidates that they can download an eRecord fromStudents Online at any time.
  • Schools ensure each RoSA candidate has activated their Students Online account before they leave school. The student's formal RoSA credential is available as a PDF viaStudents Online within 48 hours of the school advising BOSTES that the student is leaving school.

Achievement of the RoSA is a significant transition point. Students who are not eligible for a RoSA receive a Transcript of Study from BOSTES. The Transcript of Study is also available as a PDF from Students Online.
