GUIDELINES FOR THE TRANSPORTATION OF STUDENT-ATHLETES TO SCHEDULED MEDICAL APPOINTMENTS

The following guidelines will be followed for student-athlete medical appointments:

·  All appointments will be scheduled whenever possible between the operating hours of the access van shuttle service.

·  MRI appointments can now be scheduled at any time that the student-athlete can make because Shields MRI provides free transportation to and from the appointment.

·  All appointments will be scheduled based on the student-athlete’s academic class and work schedule.

·  If the daily athletics schedule allows, one option is to have one of the certified athletic trainers take the student-athlete.

·  If one of the athletic trainers and the access van are unable to take the student-athlete, those student-athletes who have a car are permitted to drive themselves if they are physically able and willing to do so.

·  Student-athletes who do not have a car will be taken by the access van or an athletic trainer if possible. If an athletic trainer or the access van is unable to take the student-athlete, then a coach may possibly be asked to help out and take the student-athlete (if the appointment is made in less than 2-3 days in advance).

·  The athletic training staff will send written questions with those student-athletes who go to appointments without an athletic trainer (except to Dr. Borg-Stein’s office because the athletic training staff communicates prior to and after the appointment with Dr. Borg-Stein).

·  Cab vouchers can be distributed (only as a last resort, provided the student-athlete is not on crutches).

·  Students are encouraged to enroll in a zip car membership if possible.
