Dear Parents,

On Monday and Tuesday, May 9th and 10th, your child will be taking the State Mandated Georgia Milestones EOC. The Coordinate Algebra I Content Team at Harrison has worked very hard this semester creating instructional activities geared toward the standards covered on this test. It is our goal for our students to do their very best. Some of the instructional strategies that we have used this year include using common assessments, differentiating instruction, ensuring alignment between instruction and the GSE (standards), utilizing USA Test Prep, exposing students to rigorous instruction, and focusing on problem solving and critical thinking. We have incorporated many activities in our classes for review purposes which we hope your child has found fun and engaging such as, Jeopardy, Kahoot Games, Zonk and Scavenger Hunts.

Next week, your child will take a Diagnostic Test which will allow us to gauge what they have learned this semester. This is the same test that they were given on the first day of school this year. In addition to measuring what your child has learned this semester, this test will allow us to determine their strengths and weaknesses going into the EOC review phase.

While we will spend an extensive amount of time in class reviewing for this test, we would like to invite your child to our after school study sessions which began on Monday, April 25th. These study sessions will be held Monday through Thursday from 3:35 pm until 5:00 pm. Students will be expected to stay the entire time unless accompanied by a note from you asking that they leave early for pick up so as to cut down on the disruptions caused from students leaving. Students must be picked up no later than 5:15 pm outside of the Freshman Academy. Please refer to the schedule listed on the back of this letter. These sessions will provide a great opportunity for your child to get extra help on any concepts that they may have struggled with throughout the semester. We hope you will encourage them to attend as many sessions as possible.

Thank you for your continued support,

The Algebra I Content Team:

Lucia Poole, B.S.E.D., M.B.A.

Megan Walsh, B.S.E.D.

Joe Burrows, M.A.T., B.S.E.D.
