Reappointment of Members of the Board of the Scottish Environment Protection Agency

The Cabinet Secretary for the Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform, RoseannaCunninghamMSP, today announced the reappointment of MichelleFrancis and NickMartin as Members of the Board of the Scottish Environment Protection Agency. The reappointments will take effect from 1January2018.

Reappointments

MichelleFrancis advises businesses on environmental and sustainability management and has worked as an environment and sustainability professional for 24 years, in both the public and private sectors. MsFrancis is currently Director and owner of Sustainability Catalyst Ltd, a sustainability and environmental consultancy practice operating largely in the transport sector. She is also a partner in Eracura Consulting Ltd. Prior to setting up these businesses she was Head of Environment for Network Rail and before that Environment Manager for Railtrack in Scotland. She holds a BSc in Environmental Science from Aberdeen University and an MSc in Environmental Science from Napier University.

NickMartin was Head of Corporate Development at The Weir Group PLC, a leading global manufacturer of engineered equipment for the natural resources and power generation sectors. MrMartinled the Corporate Development function at Weir, implementing a strategy of business acquisition and divestment, in a decade of transformation that saw the Group become Scotland’s largest industrial company. A chemistry graduate, he has extensive international business experience, having lived and worked in France, the Netherlands and Germany and executed acquisition and joint venture projects in over 15countries.

Length of Term, Time Commitment and Remuneration

The appointments are for fouryears and run from 1January2018 until 31December2021.

Members of the Board are committed to between a minimum of 24days to a maximum of 30days per year. Members receive remuneration of £276.30per day.

The reappointments are regulated by the Commissioner for Ethical Standards in Public Life in Scotland.

Other Ministerial Appointments

MsFrancis and MrMartin do not hold any other Ministerial appointments.

Political Activity

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity within the last fiveyears (if there is any to be declared) to be made public.

MsFrancis and MrMartin have had no political activity in the last fiveyears.
