Reading Requirements

Mrs. Church - 5th Grade

All students will be required to read 4 or more books, both fiction and non-fiction, over the course of EACH 9-week grading period.Guidelines are outlined below. In addition to reading 4 books, students will be expected to complete an in-class genre specific book report. Students should choose books that are of interest to them and are within his/herreading range. At the end of each 9-week grading period, students will have received the following grades: 1) one grade for each AR test taken (must be 75% or better or student will need to read an additional book), 2) one genre-specific book report grade, and 3) one completion grade for reading all 4 books.

While reading time will be given during the school day, it is highly recommended that each child spend AT LEAST 30 minutes of daily reading at home. In order to reach the required goal, students should carry abook with them at all times…at home, at school, and in the car so that they can read during any free time. My goal in setting these requirements is to help students develop a passion for reading…reading books that are of interest to them! Please sign and return bottom portion of this sheet to acknowledge your understanding and agreement of these requirements.
