Book Report for Trimester 1

STUDENT ASSIGNMENT REQUIREMENTS

1.  Select a chapter book that is age and content appropriate.

2.  Since the book lengths/number of chapters will vary, all students are required to create 10 reflections (this might require writing more than one reflection for a chapter OR combining multiple chapters into one reflection).

3.  Begin reading your chosen book. Select a Reading Portfolio project from the two choices:

-chapter reflections-written (one full-page written reflection –not a summary- after each chapter)

-character diary-written (choose a character from the novel and write a diary entry after each chapter)

4. The bottom portion of this assignment sheet is due no later than Wednesday,

September 6, 2017.

5. The completed Reading Reflection Portfolio is due on Thursday, November 2,

2017.

Reading Reflection Portfolio:

OPTION ONE – WRITTEN CHAPTER REFLECTIONS

-  After each chapter in your chosen book, write a minimum ¾ page (one-sided) reflection about the chapter. ALL reflections must be one page and written in pen or typed.

-  Since book length/number of chapters will vary, you need to have a total of 10 reflections. This means you might need to combine chapters into one reflection OR you might need to write more than one reflection for each chapter in order to fulfill the requirement.

-  There is a difference between a reflection and a summary:

o  Reflection: a fixing of the thoughts on something; careful consideration

o  Summary: a brief statement or restatement of main points

-  Your reflection should include, but is not limited to, the following:

o  comments about the chapter events, characters, theme, etc.

o  comments about how you would feel if you were in a similar situation

o  connections to life experiences

o  expectations, fears, anxieties about future chapters

-  Each reflection will also contain a decorative border which expresses the feeling and/or mood of the chapter.

-  After you complete the reading of your book and the writing of your

reflections, you will create a front and back cover for your portfolio (colorful and creative).

OPTION TWO – WRITTEN CHARACTER DIARY

-  Select a character from the book that you would like to focus on and you will create a diary from their point of view.

-  After each chapter in your chosen book, write a minimum ¾ page (one-sided) diary entry about the chapter. ALL entries must be written in pen or typed.

-  Since book length/number of chapters will vary, you need to have a total of 10 reflections. This means you might need to combine chapters into one reflection OR you might need to write more than one reflection for each chapter in order to fulfill the requirement.

-  Your diary entry should include, but is not limited to, the following:

o  character’s feelings, experiences, etc. throughout the chapter

o  connections to life experiences

o  character’s expectations, fears, anxieties

-  Each diary entry will also contain a decorative border which expresses the feeling and/or mood of the chapter.

-  After you complete the reading of your book and the writing of your

diary entries, you will create a front and back cover for your portfolio (colorful and creative).
