Reading 9 Sports 2050
1By the year 2050, sports fans will no longer buy popcorn, hot dogs, and peanuts, or root for their favorite sports teams in a stadium or arena. 2We predict that all professional sporting events will be viewed via TV and internet. These events will no longer be seen by spectators in individual venues or sporting complexes. There are many reasons for this prediction.
3First, gas and airline prices continue to increase. This along with other travel expenses means4people are less likely to travel to see sporting events. Also, more and more people are enjoying all types ofevents from the comfort of their own homes.
5Second, maintaining and updating sport complexes is an increasing cost. 6Team owners are undecided about whether or not to spend this money.
7Third, incomegenerated from TV and internet advertisers is very high. This income will increase even more with exclusive rights to all professional sporting events.
8For these reasons, TV and internet will become the gateway to sporting events. 9Soon sitting in an arena will become a thing
of the past.
