Read to Achieve Updates- April 2016

Read to Achieve Camp Good Cause Exemptions for Third Grade

NEW Information!

* If a 3rd grade student has met a good cause exemption, they are exempt from attending camp. There is a GCE letter for parents on the IRT and Principal Wiki that may be sent home once a student has met a GCE. We are currently updating the 3rd grade invitation to camp letters using this new language.

* If you are using last year’s (2014-2015) CASE 21 Quarter 3, it is approved.

*Camp training dates are now posted on the IRT and Principal Wiki. If any IRT’s would like to support your camp teachers you may sign up for training in eSchools.

*We need Reading Camp Teachers!!! Please help spread the word about the opportunity to work in reading camp. Please have any interested teachers go to Applitrack to apply. They will also need to attend training.

REVIEW Information!

*We have had many questions about using a level P as a Good Cause Exemption. A level P may be used if a student was assessed during the benchmark assessment; please note that a level P during progress monitoring does not count as a GCE. An alternate assessor must give the EOY benchmark if a level P is going to be used as a GCE.

First and Second Grade Students

Identified first and second grade students will be invited to attend Read to Achieve camp. NCDPI has allowed flexibility in how first graders are invited to camp. Based on this flexibility, WCPSS has extended the same flexibility to second grade students. Both first and second grade students will be invited to camp based on their DIBELS Composite. Any first or second grade student who has not demonstrated proficiency on the DIBELS Composite (yellow and red) will receive a camp invite. We will not use the TRC to invite students to camp. Multi-track year round schools should use the MOY DIBELS Composite to determine camp eligibility for tracks 2 and 3. All other tracks, traditional, and modified calendars will use the EOY DIBELS Composite to determine camp eligibility. Attendance is optional and is decided by the parents.

Please make sure 1st/2nd grade student information is being entered into OASIS for all camp participants as you receive confirmation of attendance to camp.
