1. Executive Director’s Reflection *

Yesterday’s gospel from John 15 on the vine and branches is so familiar to us, and conjures up for each of us special insights, or consolation, we received over the years as we reflected on this passage. Perhaps it was the intimacy of being one with and remaining in Christ; maybe it’s the promise of God’s help knowing “it will be done for you” if we remain in Him. We certainly know that God’s glory comes through our becoming/remaining disciples and bearing the fruit of faithful ministry…. (read more…)

2. PLEASE NOTE NEXT NACC NOW WILL BE TUESDAY, MAY 29TH! *

Because the next scheduled date for NACC Now, May 21st, falls during the 2012 National Conference, the next NACC Now will be issued the day after Memorial Day, Tuesday, May 29, 2012. Watch for a special email from us next week with our Conference Blog address so you can get daily news about the 2012 Conference.

3. Watch for a special email linking you to the 2011 Annual Report *

In the near future we will be sending members a special alert and link on our NACC website for the NACC 2011 Annual Report. Please take time to review it. As an NACC member, you will read how NACC representatives and staff hold themselves accountable to you, our members.

4. Third and final public draft will be reviewed at 2012 Conference Business Meeting *

The Board of Directors reviewed on April 26, 2012, member feedback on Draft II of the Strategic Plan. Nearly 200 members provided their feedback. On May 21, 2012, members will comment on Draft III at the National Conference and on May 22nd the Board will review these member comments and refine the Final Draft. 5. NACC members volunteer to develop strategies for Draft III of Strategic Plan *

Nearly 40 NACC members volunteered to assist with identifying initial strategies for the Draft III Strategic Plan’s goals and objectives. These groups will initially convene this week of May 7th in order to provide some preliminary plan strategies to share with members at the 2012 Conference’s Business meeting. Today is the final day the NACC office is able to accept 2012 Conference registrations prior to the Conference. After today, one can only register at the conference, Register today! CHAPLAINCY NEWS, EDUCATION, PROFESSIONAL SUPPORTS

13. Making plans to bless/honor nurses during National Nurses Week, May 6-12, 2012?

May 6-12, 2012 is both National Hospital Week and National Nurses Week. We have learned that several of our members are planning blessings of hands ceremonies and other events to recognize their nurses during that week. Do you have plans? National Nurses Week is an annual celebration. This week begins with May 6th, National Nurses Day, and ends with the 12th, Florence Nightingale’s birthday.

14. Request: how are spiritual departments responding to childhood trauma?

Amie Schumacher, a chaplain in a Catholic hospital, would like to discover what services other spiritual/pastoral care departments are providing with regard to the experience of trauma, specifically the experience of childhood traumas, and how these can impact spiritual development, relationship with God, and image of God. She would like to develop more services, particularly within the behavioral mental health and rehabilitation departments. She would appreciate any ideas or guidance on this issue. 20. The SCC 2011 Salary Survey is available!

We are pleased to announce that the new SCC 2011 Salary Survey is now available. We are grateful to have partnered with the Association of Professional Chaplains (APC) to conduct this survey. We thank all our members who participated in the survey. This survey report is copyrighted material. Members of APC and NACC have access to this salary survey as a member benefit. Members are asked not to duplicate this survey for others. Non-members can consult the website of the Spiritual Care Collaborative, www.spiritualcarecollaborative.org to purchase a copy for a nominal fee. Do you know that you can also access the Chaplaincy video on YouTube? Since YouTube now allows more than 10 minute clips, we have been able to have YouTube host our video.
