INFORMATION ON CLINICAL TRAINING

FOR INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE STUDENTS OF OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY

National Taiwan University College of Medicine (NTUCM) offers clinical training for international exchange students. In order to be eligible for clinical training positions, the following requirements must be met:

1. Students must be healthy and in good academic standing at their own school.

2. Students must have completed and passed at least 2 years of study in their particular field.

3. Proficiency in English language, particularly in speaking and listening comprehension, is preferred.

APPLICATION

The following documents must be received 3 months prior to the beginning of the training course:

1. a complete application form along with a recent photograph (passport size)

2. a letter of recommendation from the Director of Academic (Student) Affairs or the Dean of the School (use the enclosed form)

3. curriculum vitae

4. copy of academic transcript (or equivalents)

5. proof of health insurance, for the student while traveling and while in Taiwan

6. a statement or approval of proficiency in the English language (i.e. enough to communicate & receive medical information)

Upon receipt of the above documents, the application will be reviewed by teaching committee members of the department(s) and it normally takes about 4-6 weeks to process. When the application is accepted, a letter of acceptance will be issued. The applicant must confirm his/her decision about our arrangements at least 4 weeks prior to the start date of the elective term via E-mail to Professor Hsueh (). If he/she needs to withdraw from the training or change his/her arrival date, please notify in writing at least 4 weeks before the training term.

The term for clinical training is preferred to be rendered during our clinical training schedule: (1) from mid July to mid Oct; (2) from late Oct to mid Jan; (3) from mid February to mid May.

CREDITS, CERTIFICATE, EVALUATION AND FINAL REPORT

A certificate will be given to the student upon completion of the clinical training, and an evaluation of the student’s performance and achievement from each supervisor will be sent to the Dean or Director of Academic (Curricular or Student) Affairs of your school.

Within two weeks after completion of the elective term, the student must submit a report for the clinical training experience (E-mail to chair of teaching committee, Associate Professor Iping Hsueh : ),

ACCOMMODATIONS

Foreign students are allowed to stay at the Taita Jing-Fu Alumni Hall, an annex to our University Hospital. A special accommodation rate costing NT$12,000 (about US$400) per month without meal is available to foreign students. (other options are available in main campus area upon requesting, about 200~300 USD/month) The number of available rooms at the Alumni Hall is limited; therefore, early reservation is required.

Please note that you are welcome to check in at the Alumni Hall at the earliest 1 day prior to your start date and check out at the latest 2 days after you finish your clinical training. If you intend to arrive in Taiwan earlier or want to stay longer, please find accommodation by yourself.
