**** Read carefully 2012 HHS Swim & Dive Qualifications
Mandatory Team Qualifications Meeting All Swim/Dive athletes and parents must attend this meeting in August. No one will be considered for the team without an up to date physical form on file at HHS.
Eligibility Requirements:
- All paperwork must be completed and turned at the first parent meeting
Please help by getting this done and turned in on time. These forms are required for all HHS athletes and go on file in the Athletic Dept. Office. A student will not be considered a member of the team until this paperwork is complete.
2.Students must turn in a copy of their most current USA times. Students must have a “B min” cut at the 13-14 age range in 2 of the below events to be eligible for the team. If you do not meet this requirement you are not eligible for the team at this time. The high school qualifying times are very competitive and that is the reason for this requirement
3.Students must attend a minimum of 2 qualifying USA Sanctioned meets as an individual before the state meet. If you are not a member of a USA sanctioned team you will be responsible working with local teams on swimming unattached in their meets in order to get the USA times required by AHSAA.

USA Swimming rules were adopted by AHSAA. Students must make the AHSAA qualifying times at a USA Swimming Sanctioned meet in order to be entered in the State Meet in an individual event. There are no AHSAA qualifying times for relays, so a swimmer's best times will be considered for placement on relays. Since HHS does not have an aquatic facility, all training and competitions to achieve qualifying standards in preparation for the ASHAA championship are done as individuals with local area USA Swimming teams. Current swimmers train with The Hoover Blue Thunder (HBT), the Birmingham Swim League (BSL), and Swim Birmingham YMCA (SBY). Divers train with area dive teams and must be coached by a local area dive coach. Any and all training and competition fees associated with these area teams is the responsibility of the individual swimmer/diver and their family and are not a part of HHS fees.
HHS fees can vary depending on the location of the AHSAA State Championship (lodging and and travel expenses). Students will be responsible for purchasing their own suits, goggles, and warm-up suits. All other items (caps, T-shirts, sweat shirt) as well as the costs associated with travel will be covered as part of the athlete "Spirit Pack". The cost of the Spirit Pack will vary from year to year, but student athletes will have the opportunity to participate in fund-raisers to meet this financial obligation. The student (and their family) will be responsible for the balance not raised by fund-raising activities. For example, the athletes from the 2011 team were each responsible for raising $150 for their individual accounts. A car wash was held, and tickets were pre-sold for $10 each. If the student athlete pre-sold 15 tickets, their financial obligation of $150 was met. If they student athlete sold 10 tickets, a check was written by their parent for the remaining $50, thus fulfilling the $150 obligation.
