READ ACROSS AMERICA WEEK

FEBRUARY 27- MARCH 2

Teachers: Camp Ground celebrates reading every day, but next week is National Read Across America Week so we are pulling out all the stops! We are planning fun ways to celebrate reading each day with a special salute to Dr. Seuss since his birthday is March 2nd. Please let me know if you have questions about the following events/activities!

SCHOOL WIDE ACTIVITIES:

  • 100 Minute Reading Challenge: Every Camp Ground student is challenged to spend 20 minutes reading each day for a total of 100 minutes for the week. A chart is attached, simply record each student’s name and the number of minutes they read each day… at the end of the week, send the chart to Mrs. Green in the library and we will calculate our school wide total minutes read this week!
  • Dr. Seuss Trivia Challenge: Each day next week, a trivia question will be announced over the intercom. After the announcement, each classroom may select and send 1 student to the library with the correct answer to the trivia question… the classroom whose student reaches the library first with the correct answer will win a Dr. Seuss book for their classroom!

GRADE LEVEL CONTESTS:

  • “I Speak for the Trees” Speech contest for grades 3-5. Students in grades 3-5 can write a short speech telling why they think trees are an important part of our environment. They may include their thoughts on planting trees, logging, or other topics that go along with the idea that trees are important. The speech should be turned into Mrs. Green in the library no later than Wednesday, February 29th at 3:00 PM. Three winners will be chosen- one per grade level. The winners will receive a certificate and read their speech aloud at the school wide tree planting ceremony on Thursday. (This would be an excellent writing activity for our program review!)
  • A “Recycled Hats” contest will be for grades K-2. Students may create a hat using recycled materials to wear on “Crazy Cat in a Hat” day on Friday, March 2nd. Students who want to enter the contest will be called to the library for judging on Friday afternoon. Certificates and prizes will be given to student winners.
