Richard,

Thank you for your thoughtful way in supporting Taiwan. On behalf of the Bay Area Taiwanese, I will salute you!.

The article you wrote has a good point to continue the spirit of the original one. I have modified it a little bit.

I hope you can pass it to Libertytimes. I have contacted Congressman Pombo's office already.

His "East Bay Director" James Ottem said I can visit him anytime. But if I want to meet Congressman in person, I have to turn in application to DC's office for appointment. What do you suggest?

I will call a meeting to form the TAISTAC-NC on 12/18 2:30 pm in my office. I will have a better idea at that time.

Yes, I do receive emails from 海翁. Please say thanks/hello for me. Best regards!

John

Hello:

I met Dr. Lin on Tuesday Dec. 13th, and he said that the plans for publishing the new magazine are to begin most likely in February 2006. That would be after the Chinese New Year. The magazine will be in Chinese of course.

I am wondering if you need a new essay for passing out to your supporters, in connection with your plans for founding a Northern California Chapter of TAISTAC.

I have written an essay in response to this December 5th article in the

LIBERTY TIMES --

台灣‧德州 http://www.libertytimes.com/2005/new/dec/5/today-o6.htm

This essay is attached. I have written John Hsieh's name on it. You may add additional wording if you wish. (Please do not publish or distribute it under my name, as my wife feels I should begin to write drafts to support other "researchers" in this area, and not always put everything under my name ..... )

Moreover, I am emailing some additional Chinese language essays to you in separate mailings. I assume that you have received these before. Do you get the regular mailings from ? Mr. 海翁always emails out relevant articles to everyone on this mailing list, whenever such articles appear in the Taiwan press.

The essays I will submit to you now have some reference to insular status

.....

Sincerely,

Richard,

When will Roger publish his New Magazine? Yes, we definite will do something here in N. California. TAISTAC has a good position to launch a new movement for Taiwan Nation. Thanks for all your advise.

Hello:

As you may have heard, Dr. Roger Lin is coordinating with some other local researchers here in Taiwan and is planning to start a NEW MAGAZINE in early 2006.

Hence, I believe it is important that if you set up this Taiwan Area Insular Status Committee (TAISTAC) Northern California Chapter .... you should have a press release, take "digital photos" at the event, and have a written Chinese-language summary of what happened at the event.

Then, Dr. Lin will be able to announce this in the new magazine as well.

Sincerely,

Richard,

Thanks for the PETITION LETTER. I will try to organize the TAISTAC team on 12/18 in my office. And I will try to contact Congressman Pombo's office next Monday to schedule an appointment. Yes, it is time for the Bay Area Taiwanese to constructively/positively do something for Taiwan. I will always keep you posted. Thanks!

Hello:

I am sending this email to John Hsieh. There are no CC or BCC to other persons.

Please see first attached Microsoft WORD file. In that file is a proposed 2 page "cover letter" to Congressman Pombo from John Hsieh. I have tentatively dated this as Jan. 4, 2006.

Also, a one page PETITION LETTER to Congressman Pombo's office in Stockton, Calif. (After "Sincerely" ... it should be signed ...... )

Also, a one page PETITION LETTER to Congressman Pombo's office in Washington, D.C. (After "Sincerely" ... it should be signed ...... )

Each person should fill out and sign their own PETITION LETTER.

For promotion purposes ...... I believe you should establish a type of "friendship association" called TAIWAN INSULAR AREA STATUS COMMITTEE.

You might want to have a news conference to launch it off.

I have included some notes in page one of this Microsoft WORD file. The notes are --

Richard,

Thanks for the information. Can you please prepare a draft of Petition for us? I will like to organize a group of local Taiwanese to visit Congressman Pombo soon after we have the Petition letter from you. And of course, the visiting group will include some of his voters. At lease we like to find out how he evaluate the insular status of Taiwan today. Please give us more advise before we go. Thanks!

John

Hello:

The House of Representatives' COMMITTEE ON RESOURCES is in charge of Insular Affairs. In fact, that Committee has an Office of Insular Affairs.

The Chairman is Richard Pombo, who is from California's 11th Congressional District.

Details are below:

======

Committee on Resources, House of Representatives

Richard W. Pombo, Chairman

California, 11th District

http://www.house.gov/pombo/

Congressman Pombo’s District includes the following cities in California --

(San Joaquin County)

Clements, Escalon, Linden, Lockeford, Morada, Farmington, Lodi, Manteca, Ripon, Stockton, Tracy, Woodbridge

(Alameda County)

Dublin, Pleasanton, Sunol

(Contra Costa County)

Brentwood, Danville, San Ramon, Blackhawk, Byron, Diablo, Discovery Bay

(Santa Clara County)

Gilroy, Morgan Hill, San Martin

======

I am thinking that if a group of US citizens who reside in Congressman Pombo's District could have a PETITION to the effect that the House Committe on Resources should investigate the true nature of the Taiwan status, he

might listen. Mr. Pombo has an office in Stockton, Calif.

I assume that he would pay attention to a PETITION which was from US citizens in his Congressional District.

See --

Research on Taiwan's Position as a US Insular Area (Unincorporated

Territory)

http://www.taiwanadvice.com/fapa/insular.htm

The House Committee on Resources did a report on the "Application of the US Constitution to Insular Areas" in 1997 - 98. With all of the new information now available on the true international legal status of Taiwan, that report needs to be updated.

Sincerely,
