Dear Cancer Center Members:

The Commonwealth Foundation will continue its investment in the SKCCC specifically to supportinnovative projects that lead to a clinical impact in the area ofpersonalized cancer medicine.Funding for up to three projects will begin July 1, 2018 for one year ($500,000 maximum direct cost) with the possibility of funding up to an additional 18 months. Thus, if a project is making suitable progress, we hope tofund up to 30 months. The committee will not solicit pilot projects.

Please select “Submit Application” to proposea project for consideration. The application should be completed online by end of day, May 15, 2018.We expect funding to start on July 1, 2018.

(a) Significance: Explain the importance of the problem or critical barrier to progress in the field that the proposed project addresses. Explain how the proposed project will improve scientific knowledge, technical capability, and/or clinical practice in one or more broad fields. Describe how the concepts, methods, technologies, treatments, services, or preventative interventions that drive this field will be changed if the proposed aims are achieved.

(b) Innovation: Explain how the application challenges and seeks to shift current research or clinical practice paradigms. Describe any novel theoretical concepts, approaches or methodologies, instrumentation or intervention(s) to be developed or used, and any advantage over existing methodologies, instrumentation or intervention(s). Explain any refinements, improvements, or new applications of theoretical concepts, approaches or methodologies, instrumentation or interventions.

(c) Approach: Describe the overall strategy, methodology, and analyses to be used to accomplish the specific aims of the project. Unless addressed separately include how the data will be collected, analyzed, and interpreted as well as any resource sharing plans as appropriate. Discuss potential problems, alternative strategies, and benchmarks for success anticipated to achieve the aims. If the project is in the early stages of development, describe any strategy to establish feasibility, and address the management of any high risk aspects of the proposed work. Point out any procedures, situations, or materials that may be hazardous to personnel and precautions to be exercised.

(d)Preliminary Studies: Include information on Preliminary Studies. Discuss the PD/PI’s preliminary studies, data, and/or experience pertinent to this application.

  1. INTERNAL COLLABORATIONS: Describe how your group will work together to complete the project.

  1. An estimate of annual direct costs is $500,000, distributed among three projects to be awarded. There will be no group projects of the type currently funded.
