Re: Approaching the End Bumpy

Hi Friends,

What’s it all about getting what you want and realising it isn’t what you want? Well, for one it says you don’t always know what you really want. Or rather, you often don’t know what you really need. It’s like me bearing with the cold and anticipating Spring to come. Then the day it came (refer to Sat on Week 8 of progress report), I felt attacked bodily and mentally, beaten up and down, left and right, in and out, ok you get the idea.. Remember previously I said I don’t hydrate while running because I don’t want to stop for toilet breaks? Well, that 31⁰C Saturday run on 23 Sephad me scurrying to the water coolers without a second thought. I was so thirsty I’ll still drink even if I were to pee in my pants. Just kidding haha.

So, I was running (and huffing and puffing) and thinking, it’s a good thing you don’t get all you wish for. What I mean is that, looking back at my 10 year ago self, more than half of what I wanted have their ends in ruin – but there wasn’t a trace of doubt in me then that I may just be wrong. So what makes me think I won’t look back at myself in 10 years’ time and recognise some foolish thoughts I may now have? So, seeking counsel from the wiser and more mature is important. Hopefully I grow more teachable.

Prior to Week 8, I think things have moved along fairly smoothly on track to the 21km race. I almost thought it alignedtoo perfectly to my training plan. But now at Week 9, training is disrupted as I have to pull back that the pain lingers and recovery slows. That reminds me that’s just reality –trouble comes inevitably (possibly self-inflictedhahah, but still trouble anyway). “but man is born to trouble as the sparks fly upward” – Job 5:7. That means it is certain, not necessarily in your training run, but in your life for sure. Naturally will be disrupted, but shouldn’t be too surprised as such things are no strange things.

As expected, my physiotherapist told me to go easy. Turns out to still be too much too soon. I thought I had planned it well.. In any case, I could have helped the situation if I listened to my friend who’s been telling me to go to physio for weeks. But do you see the problem? I didn’t think I needed it. You won’t seek a doctor if you don’t believe you’re sick. In the case where you actually are, thinking you’re not won’t make you well and sooner or later you’ll have to face the diagnosis. In this case, the worst just means injured legs and disrupted training, nothing serious. However some other matters does carry severe consequences if you were incorrect about it and they ought to be given due thoughts.

Anyway, as you can see in the progress report Week 9 appears like I’m slacking, but I am not – I’ve gone the max I’m allowed to go for the week. What more, some Indonesian colleague threatens not to let me eat the Indonesian chocolate mooncakes if I don’t be good. Ckckck, goes without saying chocolate mooncake wins (I don’t even enjoy running to begin with, no contest here :D).

Lastly, just about 1 more week to go, am I really going to run? That’s the plan, but I’ll consult my physio tonight and see what he has to say. In any case what I have to say is that don’t you worry, I’m not a conman (some Malaysian colleague suggests this is a scam, don’t listen to him), I’m not going to end up cheering the rest of people who are running on the day while eating KFC on the side.

Not sure how convinced you are,..anyway, I may be crazy, but the cause I’m supporting is certainly not. So, please continue your support. 
