SECTION 08 50 00 – WINDOW RESTORATION

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.01 RELATED DOCUMENTS

1. Drawings and general provisions of Contract, including General Conditions and Division 1 Specification sections apply to work of this section.

1.02 DESCRIPTION OF WORK

1. Replace balances and shoes on aluminum windows.

1.03 QUALITY ASSURANCE

1.The Contractor shall be a firm not having less than three (3) years of successful experience in comparable window restoration projects.

2.The Contractor shall field verify the scope and quantity of work as described in general terms in the Contract Documents prior to submitting bid.

3.Submit for approval an itemized list of work to be completed for the project per drawings and specifications and based on the Contractor’s pre-bid survey. Items determined by the District to fall within the description of work, but not indicated on the Contractor’s list of work shall be included as part of this project at the Contractor’s expense.

1.04 SUBMITTALS

1. Submit manufacturer's product data and installation instructions.

2.Provide sample of manufacturer’s standard products.

3.Contractor to field inspect all windows to determine which windows to repair. Contractor to submit inspection log indicating locations and repairs required at each window.

1.05 SPECIAL PROJECT WARRANTY

  1. Submit written warranty signed by Manufacturer, Installer and Contractor, agreeing to repair window units repaired that fail in materials or workmanship within 5 years of date of acceptance. Failure of materials or workmanship shall include (but not be limited to) excessive leakage or air infiltration, faulty operation of sash and defects in hardware, weather-stripping, and other components of work.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.0l MATERIALS

1. Provide class 5 high performance spiral balances, Turbo II as manufactured by Window Repair Systems, Inc., as required to restore the moving sashes of double hung aluminum windows in locations indicated so that windows operate smoothly.

  1. Balances shall be heavy duty of appropriate size and capacity to hold the sash stationary at any desired open position.
  1. Provide all necessary non-corrosive fastening devices to complete installation of parts in a manner adequate for intended use.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.01INSTALLATION

  1. Replace existing balances, sash tops, locking pivot shoes, 4 per sash, and turn existing removed hardware over to RCSD Plant Maintenance.
  1. Inspect, lubricate and replace damaged window components with like materials in good quality matching existing.
  1. Fasten any loose weatherstripping, trim, etc., with non-corrosive fasteners or appropriate adhesive.
  1. Leave windows clean and in 100% operating condition upon completion of work.
