RCMS 8th Grade Team 8-1 Expectations

August 2017

Dear Parents,

Another school year is here and we are excited to be working with your child! We are confident this year will be a success, and we thank you in advance for your partnership. Communication between parents, teachers, and students is essential in ensuring this success. Please familiarize yourself and your student with this summary of the 8th grade guidelines.

Expectations, procedures, rules:

A Crownover Cowboy is a champion and:

Best COWBOY behaviors:

●Follow dress code

●ID’s: Wear it, take care of it, don’t share it

●Lanyards: Know your color and wear it with pride

●Lunch: Wear your ID. Keep hands, feet and food to yourself

●Restroom:

○Take care of business and get to where you are supposed to be. No Loitering.

○Leave the restroom cleaner than you found it.

●Passing Periods: Only 3 minutes, so don’t waste it. Walk on the right, get in line and be on-time.

●Hall Passes: Fill out your agenda or have a restroom pass.

●Waiting Area: Voice level 2. Be in YOUR waiting area.

●After School: Don’t hang around. Go to your bus or leave the campus.

In the Classroom:

●Always bring agenda and required supplies to class.

●Be in assigned seat or in class line before class is scheduled to start.

●Abide by Crownover Middle School policies.

●No backpacks, gym bags, purses, or coats allowed in the classroom or cafeteria for safety reasons.

●Phones must be turned off and left in student’s locker during school hours.

●No gum, food, or drinks allowed in the classroom. *Water bottles are allowed in classes per teacher discretion.

Agendas:

●All students are required to have an agenda.

●Contact front office if you need to purchase an agenda.

Grading Policy:

●Refer to individual teacher and the Denton ISD policy.

Homework and Make-Up Policy:

●Students will follow the district policy regarding missing assignments. Typically the student has however many days they were absent plus one to get caught up.

●It is the responsibility of the student to obtain the required missing assignments from the teacher.

Reassessment Policy:

●Reassessment process must be completed within 5 days of receiving a reassessment contract or returned test, unless an extension exception is offered by the teacher.

●The recorded grade will be the higher of the original or re-assessment grade.

Tutorials:

●Tutorial days and times are posted on each teacher’s web site, classroom door and in the table below..

Progress Reports/Report Cards:

●Progress Reports will be sent home 1 time per marking period and Report Cards will be sent home 1 time per marking period.

●The students are required to have these signed and returned. Detentions will be assigned for failure to comply.

Disciplinary Action Progression:

●Verbal warnings.

●Teacher assigned detentions, which are held Monday – Friday, as assigned by the teacher in accordance with

DISD policies. Parent will be notified via email or phone. Please sign the detention slip.

●Team meeting with the student or parent.

●Office referrals.

●In accordance with our CHAMPS procedures, the “rule of three” will be continued this year. (3 detentions before office referral, except for behavior that warrants immediate removal from the classroom)

Enhanced/Pre-AP Classes:

●Offered in Science, History, and English

●Classes at a faster pace

●Failure at a marking period will result in probation for the rest of the year.

●A second failing marking period grade will result in removal from the class, per Ms. Parham.
