(in block letters) PG STUDENT

DEPARTMENT OF MATERIA

MEDICA

H.K.E.SOCIETY’S HOMOEOPATHIC

MEDICAL COLLEGE AND

HOSPITAL, GULBARGA – 585105.

2. Name of the Institution H.K.E.SOCIETY’S HOMOEOPATHIC

MEDICAL COLLEGE AND

HOSPITAL, GULBARGA.

3. Course of study and subject M.D. (HOMOEOPATHY) – MATERIA

MEDICA.

4. Date of admission to the course 31st May 2008

5. Title of the topic A CLINICAL STUDY OF

HOMOEOPATHIC MANAGEMENT

IN UTERINE FIBROID.

6. Brief resume of the intended work

6.1 Need for the study In a number of developing countries like

INDIA, family planning has been a key

factor in declining the fertility. Hence

in order to promote the health & welfare

of family, a well educated & a responsible

women is going for oral contraceptives

which contain the increased level of

oestrogen.

Uterine fibroid is a benign i.e.

a non-cancerous growth from the muscle

layer of uterus & is medically referred as

fibromyomas. It is generally formed of a

mixture of muscle tissues containing

fibrous tissue. Its incidence is highest

during the reproductive period of a women

i.e. from age group of 30yrs to 45yrs. It is

mainly caused by increased level of

oestrogen hormone. Fibroids usually don’t

develop after menopause. Mainly the fibroid is asymptomatic,

but it may also manifest symptoms like –

irregularities of menses, dysmenorrhoea,

infertility, pain abdomen, swelling of

lower abdomen & pressure symptoms.

In other system of medicine, the

conservative treatment is not much

helpful, hence they advise for

myomectomy or hysterectomy. But

surgery may not be advised in all the

women with fibroid uterus because this

may lead to infertility, artificial

menopause, there are chances of

recurrence in myomectomy, some women

may be diabetic & some may not be

affordable.

Homoeopathy is a system which

believes that ‘There is no disease, but

disease individual.’ It does not consider

disease as something different from the

whole life force. It considers that the

whole man is sick & is to be restored

to health, nor his body, not the tissue.

Dr. Kent in his Lesser writings says

that sick organs are but the results of a

disordered state of the man himself, who

is composed of mind & physical being &,

last, of organs & extremities.

Hence Homoeopathy considers

the man as a whole, but not his individual

parts.

Now it is the time to show to the world

what homoeopathy can offer in surgical

cases. Homoeopathy does wonders in

dissolving these masses. Homoeopathy is

the only system of medicine which could

control & dissolve a tumour.

Homoeopathic medicines cannot take

place of surgery but can be of a great help

to the patients.

The drug FRAXINUS AMERICANA is

native of Eastern North America. It was

introduced by Dr. Wright. It is used in case

of enlarged uterus,fibrous growth, prolapse

with bearing down sensation.

Some of the great pioneers like

Dr. Compton Burnett & W. Boericke have

successfully treated fibromyomas with

FRAXINUS AMERICANA Q (mother

Tincture) but there is no systematic study

has been done. Hence it is an effort to

see the efficacy of ‘FRAXINUS

AMERICANA’ Q in fibroid uterus with

Constitutional drug whenever necessary.

“Long live hysterus through timely

intervention of Hahnemannian Genius.”

6.2 Review of literature 1. Although oestrogen & growth hormone

have been implicated in the growth of

myomas, the evidence in support of

oestrogen dependence for their growth is

impressive –

·  Myomas are rarely found before puberty & after menopause.

·  Myomas are known to increase in size during pregnancy & with oral contraceptives.

·  Progesterone inhibits the growth of myomas.

·  The association of fibroids in women with hyperoestrogenism.

Dr. Padubidri. V. G & Dr. Shirish. N.

Daftary – Shaw’s textbook of

Gynaecology, 13th edition – Elsevier,

a division of reed Elsevier India (p)

ltd. New Delhi.

2. ‘I hold very strongly that it is simply

impossible to cure any constitutional

diseases whatever by any operation.

The manifold operations on women

are, for the most part, absolutely

useless, often harmful, & not seldom

fatal. How can anyone cure the quality

of a person by cutting a piece of her?’

Ellis Barker. J – New lives

for Old – B. Jain publishers, New

Delhi.

3. The real indication is to set about

reducing the size & weight of the

organ, until it is light enough to go up

to its normal position. And my

contention is that this can be done, &

the task is not even difficult, but it

cannot be done without organ

remedies, & also it cannot be done

without constitutional remedies

when the hypertrophy is of

constitutional origin.

Dr. Compton Burrnett. J – Organ

Diseases of women – B. Jain

Publishers, New Delhi.

4.  In the fibrous growths, we have all the miasms present, the displacements of the other tissues, for the dense, white & fibrous formation which we find in fibroma, which is due to one of the deepest & most profound miasmatic changes conceivable.

Dr. Allen. J. H – The chronic miasms – B. Jain publishers, New Delhi.

5.  Certain homoeopathic remedies have

been used to shrink the fibroid or stop or slow the growth of fibroid, there by lessening its symptoms. www.healthsearches.org/categories_ of_Q&A/Health_for_Women/1410.php.

6.  Uterine fibroid is the most common

Benign tumour in females. The incidence is highest among age group – 35yrs to 45yrs. Fibroids are formed due to an increased oestrogen level in the body, which could be due to a variety of reasons. In pill users &

during pregnancy there are chances of

increase growth of fibroids.

Dr. Nidhi Luthra, Homoeopathy for all – Nov-2003, Vol IV, No-47.

7. Fraxinus Americana – enlarged uterus

with bearing down sensation & cramping pain in the feet mostly in the afternoon & night. Watery, non irritating leucorrhoea or consequential haemorrhages.

Experiences – 1) Dr. J. N. Singhal – 10 to 15 drops Q at bed time in alternation with veratrum album 30x in morning.

2) W. Boericke - recommended 10 to 15 drops Q three times daily.

Dr. Samarendra -

National journal of homoeopathy Nov/Dec-2001, Vol-III, No-6

. 8. ‘Since the uterus has no function but

child bearing, its removal for certain

disorders does not affect general

health.’ The foregoing is classical

example of modern medicine’s

arrogance. The uterus is an endocrine

organ throughout life & baby maker

only occasionally. Its senseless

removal is fraught with numerous

problems that women have silently

put up with. Just as tonsillectomies

& appendectomies are on their

way out, hysterectomy will turn

into a thing of past, a task that the

Hahnemannians should undertake

with a sense of clarity & mission.

Dr. Samarendra -

National journal of homoeopathy

Nov/Dec-2001, Vol-III, No-6.

9. Homoeopathy does wonders in

dissolving these masses.

Homoeopathy is the only system of

medicine which could control &

dissolve a tumour . It makes

everybody surprised as the

medicines posses the similar

symptoms of the disease symptoms.
