Hi Everyone:

Wow, It’s Sept. already! Where did the summer go?

Ray and I had a nice time at the rally and I think everyone else who was there had a good time too.

The rally is gonna be in Erie Pa next year so mark your calendar and make plans to go and have FUN.

Looking forward to the road trip to Mayberry.

The roll for dough is still a go just read the news letter for the next location.

Be Safe and Have Fun

Hello everyone! As I am sure you are all aware, a couple of months ago I wrote an article about helmets and how they work. I hope this was informative and helpful and I want to continue that by talking about jackets this time. Now, I am sure most all of us have a jacket we always go to in cool weather. The question is, is it an actual motorcycle riding jacket or just a normal cold weather coat? The differences can be great and just could reduce your chances of getting hurt. Riding jackets (either cold weather or mesh) are usually made of a material that will hold up under abrasive conditions much better than just a cloth coat. Leather is also very resistive to abrasion. In adding to this, riding jackets often have removable inner liners that add extra insulation. Some jackets also come with high tech air systems built in that take air in at your arms and chest and circulate this through the jacket to aid in cooling in warmer weather. Leather jackets and most cold weather riding jackets are waterproof in case you get caught in a quick shower. Choosing the right jacket can be a challenge and if you have done any searching, I am sure you have come across those that say they have CE armor in the arms, shoulders and back. Now, what is CE armor?? CE means that the armor in the jacket has met the standards set forth in Europe. (there are currently no standards for this in the US) This however, does not mean all the armor is the same. As long as the material passes the tests, it can be made of different material. Some armor will have a hard plastic shell with soft padding while some will just be different densities of foam. I have a jacket that has the hard plastic armor and foam back. Different people like different things and comfort is a very personal choice so my advice to you is to get a proper riding jacket but do not buy sight unseen! (from the internet) Make sure you find the model you are looking at locally and try it on and decide what you like for yourself. One more thing to think about is size. Different maker’s size’s can vary so this is another reason to try before you buy. Thanks! Now get out and go riding!

Pocono Ride August 23 to 25, 2013

Dan lead another great ride to the Ringing Rocks through York, Pa. and Lancaster to Pottstown, Pa. The next morning we headed out to Quakertown, Pa traveling to the Ringing Rocks where we pounded one rock against a boulder. We even made music, well if you can call it music? We went on down the trail to the grand water falls. Rich and I walked out to the center of the falls fortunately they were in a drought and it was down to a trickle. The group rode up and down the hills and mountains twists and turns of Pottstown to Hazleton, Pa. Stopping in Milford, Pa. for lunch at the Apple Valley Restaurant which was a good choice Dan.Then riding to the Boulder Field which was 400 foot across and 1800 feet long with nothing but boulders, boulders and more boulders. Rich, Audrey and I went the entire way across the field and back. There were 13 chapter members on 9

bikes. Then there was the ride back home through Shrewsbury for lunch at Cracker Barrel then ride on to Codurus State Park through Hanover and Gettysburg, Pa.

What a wonderful ride with awesome weather, thanks Dan.

Road Kill Cafe~ Ride August 31, 2013

Steve led us perfectly to the Road Kill Café. We rode down route 30 west to 522 south across MD. 70 onto route 484 west then onto route 26 north to Artemus, Pa. After arriving at the Road Kill Cafe we had a great surprise. Floyd Palmer showed up on his trike from Dott, Pa. After the perfectly breaded country fried ground hog steak and roadkill veggie soup and breaded wide mushrooms. That's just what I had. We afterwords had ice cream at the Cats Creamery right out side Road Kill Cafe~ just another surprise for us. Then we headed home with Floyd. It was so great having Floyd in the group ride. We

headed back route 26 north towards Everett, Pa. Then down Route 30 east. Where Floyd road off from Breezwood, Pa. The rest of us rode on home. Thanks Steve for another really great ride.
