1.5  DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

Correct site storage and protection are essential to proper performance of all hollow metal products, however these are not the responsibility of the hollow metal manufacturer.

A.  Mark doors and frames and components for corresponding opening number or location.

B.  Store and handle products in accordance with HMMA 861, or HMMA 840-TN01 in manufacturer's original, unopened, undamaged containers.

C.  Remove wraps and covers upon delivery.

D.  Promptly clean and touch up scratches and disfigurements with touch-up primer.

E.  Cover materials against damage in manner permitting air circulation.

F.  Protect materials from adverse temperature and humidity conditions.

G.  Store doors and frames upright on wood planking, protected at corners.

H.  Store accessories in secure area protected from adverse temperature and humidity conditions.

I.  Do not store in non-vented plastic or canvas shelters.

PART 2 PRODUCTS

2.1  MANUFACTURERS

A.  Contract Documents are based on M Series by MegaMet Industries, Inc., PO Box 635, 3228 6th Avenue North, Birmingham, Alabama 35201, www.megametusa.com, toll-free 888-322-7750, Fax 205-322-4600.

2.2  MATERIALS

A.  Steel: Cold rolled, ASTM A568/A568M or ASTM A 1008/A1008M, or hot-rolled, ASTM A1011/A1011M.

Include the following paragraph if galvanized steel doors and frames are required.

B.  Hot-Dip Galvanized Steel:

1.  ASTM A653/A653M and ASTM A924/A924M.

Coating thickness of G60 or G90 is available but not recommended except for use in extreme exposure conditions due to potential paint adhesion issues.

2.  Coating thickness: Class [A40] [A60].

Verify current recycled content with MegaMet Industries.

C.  Recycled Content: Minimum [ 30 ] percent recycled steel by weight, with minimum [ 25 ] percent classified as post-consumer.

D.  Lead Sheet: FS QQ-L-201f, Grade C, [99.9] [ ] percent pure.

2.3  ACCESSORIES

A.  Primer Paint: Low-VOC rust-inhibitive primer meeting or exceeding performance requirements of ANSI/SDI A250.10.

B.  Touch-Up Primer: Formulated for direct-to-metal (DTM) application.

2.4  FABRICATION - DOORS

A.  Fabricate door faces from [18] [16] [14] [12] gage [galvanized] steel sheet.

B.  Fabricate doors to nominal 1-3/4 inch thickness.

C.  Fabricate doors from two sheets of steel without visible seams on faces or vertical edges.

D.  Fabricate doors with edges continuously welded, filled, and finished smooth as described in HMMA 861.

E.  Fabricate internal reinforcing members from hot or cold rolled steel.

F.  Fabricate doors handed with either square or bevel edges at manufacturer's option.

G.  Reinforce vertical edges with continuous single piece channels at hinge and lock edges. Form channel from one member.

2.5  FABRICATION - FRAMES

B.  Fabricate frames from [16] [14] [12] gage [galvanized] steel sheet.

C.  Fabricate frames with tightly mitered corners and butted stops. Tabs and slots may be used at headers and jambs for factory alignment of assembly.

D.  Fabricate frame members of uniform profile throughout their lengths.

E.  Close corner contact edges tight with faces mitered and stops either butted or mitered.

F.  Frame Corners: [Knocked-down for field assembly.] [Welded continuously at faces.]

G.  Line frames with [ ] inch thick lead sheet furnished by [frame manufacturer] [X-ray protection contractor]. Lead shall be installed [in the factory by frame manufacturer] [at the jobsite by X-ray protection contractor]. Where lead is field installed, provisions and clips for securing lead shall be factory-installed into frames.

H.  Hardware Preparation: Mortise, reinforce, drill, and tap to receive templated mortise hardware; reinforce for specified surface hardware in accordance with HMMA 861.

Include one or more of the following paragraphs depending on frame and anchor types required.

I.  Anchors:

1.  Provide frames with one floor anchor per jamb.

2.  Provide frames with minimum of three wall anchors up to opening height of 90 inches and one additional anchor for each 24 inches or portion thereof above 90 inches.

3.  Frames in new masonry: Strap and stirrup, T-strap anchors, or wire anchors.

4.  Frames in stud partitions: Steel anchors of suitable design securely fastened to jambs with corresponding locations on strike jamb.

5.  Frames installed with anchor bolts: Frame soffits dimpled or countersunk for 3/8 inch diameter bolts.

6.  All bolts and or Fasteners are by others.

2.6  PREPARATION FOR GLAZING:

A.  Provide doors and frames scheduled to receive glazing with removable channel or angle shaped stops with butted corners to secure lead lined glazing.

B.  Stops secured to frame sections with minimum No. 8 corrosion resistant sheet metal screws.

C.  Dimple or countersink channel stops for minimal projection above surface.

2.7  COORDINATION OF DIMENSIONS

A.  Fabricate doors and frames to dimensions [indicated on Drawings after plan layouts have been field confirmed.] [from field dimensioned plan layouts.]

2.8  MANUFACTURING TOLERANCES

Manufacturer of hollow metal product is responsible only for tolerances directly related to manufacturing. Final clearances and relationships between door and frame depend on setting of frame and hanging and adjustment of door and hardware.

A.  Manufacturing Tolerances: Within limits established by HMMA 841 and HMMA 861.

2.9  HARDWARE LOCATIONS

When hollow metal frame products are specified for use with doors specified in other sections, hardware locations on doors shall be governed by location on frames.

A.  Location of hardware on doors and frames: As established in HMMA 861.

2.10  FINISHES

A.  After fabrication, fill tool marks and surface imperfections and sand to make face sheets, vertical edges, and weld joints free from irregularities.

B.  Clean and treat exposed surfaces of doors and frames to ensure prime paint adhesion.

C.  After metal preparation, apply primer to exposed surfaces. Allow primer to fully cure prior to shipment.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1  PREPARATION

Correct installation is essential to proper performance of doors and frames, however, installation is not the responsibility of the hollow metal manufacturer.

For additional information regarding installation see HMMA 840.

A.  Prior to installation:

1.  Check area of floor on which frames are to be installed, and within path of door swing, for flatness.

2.  Remove temporary spreaders from welded frames.

3.  Check frames for correct size, swing, fire rating and opening number.

3.2  INSTALLATION

A.  Install frames plumb, straight, and true, rigidly secured in place and properly braced; comply with ANSI/SDI A250.11 and HMMA 820-TN01.

B.  Install labeled fire doors and frames in accordance with the terms of their listings, ANSI/NFPA 80, and requirements of local authority having jurisdiction.

C.  Grout fill frames in new masonry in accordance with ANSI/SDI A250.11 and HMMA 820 TN01. Do not grout frames in drywall partitions.

D.  Secure bolted connections to adjacent construction using bolts suitable for substrate.

E.  Install accessories, doors, and hardware in accordance with manufacturers' templates and instructions.

F.  Maintain proper door edge clearances. Where necessary, install metal hinge shims to maintain clearances.

3.3  PROTECTION

A.  Protect installed products and finished surfaces from damage during construction.

B.  Remove protective wrappings when construction is sufficiently completed so that doors and frames will not be scratched or damaged.

3.4  ADJUSTING

A.  Adjust completed installations for proper operation.
