ELEVATOR PIT LEAK DETECTION SYSTEM

Multi-channel Alarm for Hydrocarbon and Water

Part 1 - General

1.1 Furnish and install a complete electronic hydrocarbon and water leak detection system. The system shall detect the presence of both hydrocarbon and water in every elevator pit, sound an audible alarm, display a visual indication on the system control panel, and energize a set of output relays. Both of the system’s sensors shall be tested to Third Party Procedures developed according to the U.S. EPA’s “Standard Test Procedures for Evaluating Leak Detection Methods: Liquid Phase out of Tank Product Detectors” and demonstrate a detection accuracy of 100% with an error rate 0% for both a hydrocarbon and water. The system shall be UL Listed under Process Management Equipment and tested to Standard 864, FM approved, and CSA approved.

1.2 The product shall be a Model 2100EWH Elevator Leak Detection System as distributed by INDUSTRIAL HEATER, 2941 Kate Bond Blvd., Suite 101, Bartlett, Tennessee, 38133, (901)382-4761

Part 2 - Products

2.1 The alarm module shall be capable of continuously and independently monitoring and reporting multiple sensing cable channels for leak events. The module shall also monitor the entire system including interconnecting cables for circuit continuity in a fully supervised 4-wire configuration. A break in a sensing cable or any interconnecting cable shall result in an audible alarm, a lighted "continuity" LED on the face of the module, and actuation of a continuity-specific output relay. Unsupervised circuits shall not be acceptable.

2.2 The hydrocarbon sensor shall be constructed from radiation cross-linked conductive polymers and respond only to liquid phase and vapor hydrocarbon in concentrations above 25,000 ppm. The sensor shall have NO electro-mechanical components, no metallic components exposed to the environment, and shall be resistant to corrosion in accordance with ASTM D-543. No more than 4" of wetted cable shall be needed for an alarm.

2.3  The water sensor shall be constructed from radiation cross-linked conductive polymers and respond only to aqueous fluids. The sensor shall have NO electro-mechanical components, no metallic components exposed to the environment, and be resistant to corrosion in accordance with ASTM D-543. No more than 4” of wetted cable shall be needed for an alarm.

Part 3 - Execution

3.1  General: All leak detection system components shall be installed in strict accordance with the manufacturer's installation instructions and the project contract documents.

3.2 Submittals: Submittal data shall include performance data, copies of third party EPA testing results for both water and hydrocarbon, and response threshold testing results for hydrocarbon. All testing submitted must have been performed by recognized certified EPA testing laboratories.
