Dear First Year Freshman Students and Parents,
Welcome to the Warrior Family, Class of 2020! We are very excited that you are coming to R.B. Stall for the 2016-2017 school year. We want you to know that your teachers, counselors, support staff and administrators are here to help you and make your transition from middle school to high school a successful one. To help make this happen, we are hosting a special “Welcome to R.B. Stall Day” for all first year freshmen Thursday, August 11, 2016 from 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. at R.B. Stall High School. Freshman will attend all classes, meet their teachers, learn school rules and procedures, and have an opportunity to make new friends. We will have a parent meeting at 6:00 p.m. to share school information that will help your child be successful.
We are eager to return for the 2016-2017 school year to continue moving R.B. Stall towards becoming a high-performing school! As a result of our teachers’ and students’ hard work over the last six years, R. B. Stall High School is no longer an “At-Risk” school. For the first time in the school’s history the State Superintendent of Education, Molly Spearman, visited Stall. She recognized Stall teachers for being on the cutting edge of implementing personalized learning. Also, R. B. Stall was selected as a 2015-17 Apple Distinguished School for outstanding technology instructional classroom practices.
Our school vision is, “R. B. STALL WILL BE AN INNOVATIVE LEARNING COMMUNITY THAT INSPIRES ALL TO BUILD A BETTER FUTURE.”
We believe that the most important element of student achievement begins with developing strong and appropriate relationships with all students. Therefore, we will continue to implement Capturing Kids Hearts (CKH). The goal of CKH is to build strong, positive relationships that lead to success in the classroom and in life. According to CKH founder Flip Flippen, “If you have a child’s heart, you have his head.” R. B. Stall High School was selected this year as one of only eleven schools nationwide for the prestigious Capturing Kids’ Hearts National Showcase Award.
No school is an island unto itself. Stall has been blessed with many business and community partnerships. We would like to thank Boeing, InterTech, Charleston Air Force Base, Key Logistics, Barling Bay, Canes, Mount Moriah Baptist Church, Charleston Southern University, Hillcrest Baptist Church, City of North Charleston, Burger King, Trident Technical College, The College of Charleston, Palmetto Goodwill, North Palm Community Church, and Chick-Fil-A.
We encourage you to be involved with your child’s education this year. Please take time to visit the school or volunteer to help with one of the many school activities.
The remaining information in this letter deals with opening school procedures, dates, and times. Please read it carefully.

2. Parents of returning students must annually update student information using the district-wide Smart Choice website at choice.ccsdschools.com.
3. All Stall students will participate in a school-based iPad program. CCSD Technology usage fee of $10.00 will be collected from all students. Students must complete the Cyber Citizenship Course during the first 10 days of school prior to participating in the school-based program.
4. After picking up schedules, students and parents may wish to walk around the school to get acquainted with the building layout.
Fees will be paid when you pick up your schedule. The registration fee is $15.00 and includes the cost of your 2016-2017 student ID. In order to simplify the fee process for parents and to ensure better recordkeeping, we can accept cash, money order, or on-line payment via debit or credit card to cover a student’s total expenses.
The master schedule was designed based on student course selections and the number of teachers allocated to R.B. Stall by the Charleston County School District. Schedule changes now are limited to errors only. There will be no elective changes. Giving students the academic classes requested and balancing class sizes are our first priorities.
School will begin Monday, August 15, at 8:30 a.m. and end at 3:30 pm. On August 15, you will report directly to your Advisory class. All students will receive their lunch period assignments from their third period teacher. Lunches will be assigned based on location of the third period class. R. B. Stall High School has been selected to participate in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) food program for the 2016-2017 school year. Because your child attends Stall High School, no paperwork will be necessary to participate in the free CEP food program. There will be no charge for breakfast or lunch for any R. B. Stall High School student this year. Students who wish to purchase additional meals beyond the first free meal will be charged. Food choices include wings, pizza, chicken fingers, chicken sandwiches, subs, and salads..
Studies on schools that have implemented a school uniform policy noted that students have a greater sense of seriousness about their school work and begin to better understand the connection between careers and employer expectations. School uniforms have also been shown to decrease truancy, tardies, and discipline incidents. Consequently, we feel that the R.B. Stall uniform policy is vital for the implementation of an effective academic program. For your convenience and planning, we have enclosed a copy of the uniform policy. Please pay particular attention to the style and type of uniform that is required. If you are buying school clothes, make sure that they meet the requirements listed on the enclosed dress code policy. Stall uniform t-shirts will be available for purchase at schedule pick-up for $10.00. Parents will be notified if their child does not meet the school policy, and they will be required to bring the appropriate uniform for their child.
In order to provide safety, security and adequate supervision, we must limit the hours for students to be on campus to the times that staff members are present. The school will open each morning at 7:00 a.m. for students wishing to arrive early. Early arrivals should report to the Warrior cafeteria. Students must exit the campus by 4:00 p.m. unless they are under the direct supervision of a staff member in an approved after-school program or activity.
Students who are dropped off should enter the building entrance at the back of the school. Bus students should enter through the rear doors at the bus drop off area. Students who drive will park in the student parking lot in the rear of the school and enter the building through the rear doors.
I want to stress the importance of school attendance and request that absences be minimized. Successful students are on time, prepared, and show respect for themselves, others, and school property. Please note the enclosed CCSD calendar for the 2016-2017 school year and arrange all family trips to avoid school absences. Please use our website at www.rbstallhs.com or our Twitter account @rbstallparents to get up-to-date information on school life and events. Follow Mr. Wilson on Twitter @RBStall_Wilson.
In accordance with State Regulation 61-8, all students in grades K-12 must have all immunizations including the Hepatitis B series in order to attend school. Any questions should be directed to the local health department.
I look forward to seeing you and encourage you to become involved in R.B Stall life. Always show Warrior pride in all that you do.
It’s a great day to be a Warrior!
Kim Wilson, Principal
