Dear Parents and Students,

As we approach the end of 2014-2015 school year, I want to thank you for your efforts and contributions which have helped make it one of the best in our school’s history. R. B. Stall is no longer designated an at-risk school. We received the Palmetto Silver Award for closing the achievement gap and just last week we were informed that we are no longer designated a South Carolina Priority School. I hope the information provided in this letter will be helpful as we work together to complete the year successfully.

Exams

The exam schedule/calendar is listed below. Note that some days the order of our periods, typically 1-2-3-4, is altered so that exams on those days are in the morning. Exams count 20% of the final grade for a course so students should make every effort to do well.

Attendance

Students who have not already exceeded the number of absences allowed by the District/State may consider the exam day as the last day we will take attendance for that course. However, students are welcome to attend the class after the exam in order to see the graded exam, do make-up work, etc.

Exam Exemptions

·  Students in Grades 9–12 take cumulative, standards-based, end-of-course examinations. When applicable, schools administer State End-of-Course tests required by the S.C. Educational Accountability Act. No student may exempt a State End-of–Course Exam. Cumulative examinations have a computational weight of 20 percent of the final average.

·  Seniors are exempt from a coursefinal exam if they have an overall average of 85 or higher. Seniors who have at least an 85 average may opt to take a final exam in that course to improve their grade. For these students, their final grade may be raised, but not lowered, by their final exam grade. Those seniors who do not have an overallaverage of 85 or higher will take exams as scheduled. Students in grades 9-11 will take exams as scheduled.

·  Students may not be exempt from final exams in quarter courses.

·  A maximum of two examinations will be administered on a given day.

·  The regular semester work will count 80% and the final examination 20% of each semester grade. End-of-course exams are considered the final exam for Algebra I, Algebra 1 Part 2, Biology 1, Applied Biology 2, English I, and United States History and Constitution.

·  The mid-term exam will be composed of material taught during the first half of the course. The final exam will be composed of material taught during the entire length of the course.

Coming/Going

Students who are on campus must report to all classes. If you wish, you may write a single parent note for the exam weeks giving your child permission to attend exams only and leave early/arrive late. If we have no note on file in the Attendance Office, the students will be considered truant from school. Students may not loiter here. They must attend classes or exit the campus.

iPads

Students must return their iPad, charger, cord and case. Summer maintenance will be completed and iPads will be re-issued at the beginning of next school year. Students who fail to return iPads will be charged $535.68 -the cost of the iPad. The cost of a lost iPad charger only is $30 and the cost of a lost iPad case only is $17.

Textbooks

Every textbook issued to a student must be returned on the exam day for that course. Students who fail to return textbooks will be charged the cost of the book. During the summer, we will have to pay the State for any missing textbooks. Please help us by getting all textbooks returned before school ends.

Obligations/Debts

Students should return any school-owned property (uniforms, iPads, textbooks, library books, etc.) and pay any debts immediately.

Locker Cleanout

All lockers should be cleaned out by May 15, 2015. Any items left after that will be discarded or donated to charity.

Have a great summer!

Sincerely,

Kim Wilson, Principal
