What is the purpose of the research?
The purpose of this research is to find out about Teachers’ enactment of assessment in Queensland’s Preparatory Year during a time of curriculum change.
Are you looking for people like me?
The researcher is looking for current Prep Year teachers from the Brisbane, Toowoomba and Sunshine Coast areas.
What will you ask me to do?
You will participate in a focus group in your area, and you will also be invited to participate in an individual interview.
Are there any risks for me in taking part?
The risks in this project are not significant, but there is some risk:
  • The focus group will take place with a group of colleagues, and there is the potential that you might say something you do not necessarily want to have attributed to you. All participants will be briefed on the nature of the focus group and will sign a confidentiality agreement
  • You will need to attend the focus group and individual interviews out of work time, so there is some inconvenience.
It should be noted that if you do agree to participate, you can withdraw from participation during the project without comment or penalty.
Are there any benefits for me in taking part?
It is hoped that you may benefit from professional discussions and reflection about your own and others teaching practices. You will also be participating with other professionals and have the opportunity to build your professional networks.
In addition your participation in this research will benefit work of other Prep Year teachers, school administrators, and curriculum developers, by contributing to the scholarship of assessment in early childhood education.
Will I be compensated for my time?
To compensate you for your time should you choose to participate, you will be provided with food and refreshments at the focus group, as well as parking if needed.
