DIRECTIONS FOR CREATING A STUDENT ACCOUNT

AND SUBMITTING WORK ON TURNITIN.COM

  1. If you have an Internet connection, you can create this account from home. If not, you will need to find a location that you can access the Internet.
  1. Type in turnitin.com
  1. If you have previously used Turnitin, you do not need to create a new account. Simply login and your previous class will appear. On the left side of the screen, ENROLL IN A CLASS is shown. Click on this button and then input the required ID # and password for your new class.

DIRECTIONS FOR STUDENTS USING TURNITIN FOR THE FIRST TIME

  1. Click on new user in the upper right-hand corner of the home page screen.
  1. Step 1: “ Create a user profile” dialogue box appears. You are asked to choose whether you are a student or instructor. Choose student.
  1. Step 2:You will be prompted to supply your CLASS ID and CLASS ENROLLMENT PASSWORD. These will be supplied to you by your teacher. Write them down.

  1. Step 3:Enter your email address (use one that is easily accessed by YOU) WRITE IT DOWN!!!!

  1. Step 4:Your password must be a minimum of six characters—one must be alpha.
  1. Step 5: Choose a secret question from the list provided and then type the answer to your question.
  1. Step 6:Enter you first name and last name.
  1. Step 7:Terms and conditionsClick on agree.
  1. You have completed the user profile set up.
  1. You should now be on the “Create a user profile (completed)” dialogue box. Look at the first line that begins with “Welcome” and ends with THE NAME OF THE CLASS IN WHICH YOU ENROLLED. Make sure this is correct.
  1. Click on end wizard and log in. The CLASS you enrolled in is now shown. Click on the class title and the assignments will be listed. Click on the title of the assignment you wish to submit.
  1. To submit work, click on the “submit button” next to the title of the assignment.
  1. You will type in your first and last name and THE TITLE OF YOUR DOCUMENT. Then click on the browse button and find your file. Click on the file to be submitted and then click on OPEN. When you return to the Turnitin screen, click on the SUBMIT button.
  1. Your document will appear. MAKE SURE IT IS THE CORRECT DOCUMENT. If not, click on NO, GO BACK and try again. If it is the correct document, click on YES, SUBMIT.

Turnitin will only accept the following formats:

MS Word, WordPerfect, PostScript, PDF, HTML, RTF, and plain text.
  1. The next screen is your DIGITAL RECEIPT. DO NOT DELETE IT. PRINT IT OUT and keep it. Your teacher will notify you if your transmission was not received. THIS IS YOUR ONLY EVIDENCE of sending your data. Don’t lose it.
