Beginning Quilting Days Supply List

Fall 2017

This class is designed for learning the techniques to complete a quilt from beginning to end. You will learn how to cut fabric using a rotary cutter, how to machine piece the blocks for a quilt top, how to add a border and layer the quilt sandwich for machine quilting, and how to bind your quilt.

Most of the items listed below are available at Sweet Darling Quilts and you will receive a 10% discount. If you have any questions about any of these items, please give the store a call.

REMINDER: Class Cancellation Policy is one week in advance to receive a refund; otherwise you will receive a store credit. If you cancel or do not show on the day of class, there will be NO REFUND OR STORE CREDIT since we must compensate our teachers.

Notions Required:

  • Sewing machine in good working condition with a new size 80 or 90, universal or sharp needle. (You MUST know how to use your machine-- if in doubt, bring your machine’s manual.)
  • Machine presser feet: ¼ inch piecing foot – MUST HAVE THIS FOR FIRST CLASS, and walking foot -- needed by session 5 for machine quilting
  • General sewing supplies: scissors, fine sharp thinpatchwork pins, seam ripper, fabric marking pens/pencils
  • Rotary cutter with a new blade, rotary cutting mat, and rotary cutting ruler (minimum 6” x 12”)
  • Thread: cotton thread in a neutral color (cream or gray); quilting thread to match top (after top is together)
  • Bobbin: wind 2 bobbins with neutral color thread prior to class
  • Basting: 505 Spray or 1 inch safety pins and (optional) Quick Klip
  • Binding: Cut-Rite Binding Tool and (optional)Wonder Clips

Fabric Requirements: You may use fabrics you already have if you’d like. Otherwise, PRIOR TO THE FIRST CLASS, you will need to purchase the following. We will gladly help you make your selections.You must wash, starch, and iron your fabrics prior to class.
