HAZON TEEN HARMONY AGREEMENT

Dear Hazon Teen,

We are delighted that you are joining us for our national Food Conference. There is plenty of fun and learning ahead for you. We also count on you to be responsible members of our community.
Please read and sign this behavior contract indicating that you understand what is expected of you as an unaccompanied. If you have any questions, feel free to call Deborah at the Hazon office at (415) 397-7020.

  1. I am at least 15 years old.
  1. I will let the Hazon staff madrich know where I am at all times.
  1. I will be in my assigned dorm room from 11pm till 7am.
  1. I will keep my dorm room orderly and behave quietly enough so that my neighbors are not disturbed by noise from my room.
  1. Teen behavior has definite limits and consequences. For teens, no drug or alcohol use is permitted; no smoking is allowed; sexual behavior (if it happens at all) is limited to kissing and hugging. Consequences for drugs, including alcohol, use is that I will be sent home at my parents’ expense.
  1. You will be housed with same gender teens and are expected to stay in your assigned sleeping area throughout the night.
  1. We prohibit participants from photographing each other during inappropriate times, such as while changing clothes or showering. While this has not been a problem on Hazon programs, this guideline is becoming standard practice for youth programs across the country in an effort to protect everyone’s feelings and privacy.
  1. Hazon teens respect the Hazon Leaders and each other. Teasing, harassment, and exclusion are not acceptable in our community.
  1. If your behavior endangers yourself or any of the participants in any way (including use of drugs or alcohol) you will be sent home at your family’s expense.

Towards these ends, we ask teen participants to attend workshops when they are offered. Help us observe Shabbat in a way that allows those who do not use electronic devices to have an electronic free environment and use cell phones and computers etc only in your room on Shabbat. “I have read and understand all of the above.”

The goals of the Food Conference are to:

Think – Encourage participants to think more deeply and broadly about their food choices, food systems — including issues of food access and affordability — and the connection of contemporary food issues to Jewish tradition and texts.

Connect – Build a Jewish community and a Jewish food movement by providing a model of a vibrant, joyful Jewish life that connects Jewish tradition, learning and spirituality with sustainable, healthful food practices.

Inspire – Convey a sense of energy, importance and enjoyment to inspire positive change around food issues and Jewish tradition so that participants who are more familiar with contemporary food issues see the Jewish connections, and Jewishly-knowledgeable participants explore contemporary food issues locally and nationally.

Strengthen –Build leadership capacity by supporting volunteers to help create change in their own communities.

Act – Create change agents to speed the velocity of best practices and action in Jewish homes, institutions, and communities, and the world as a whole.

Dig in – Join this powerful Jewish Food Movement that works to create healthy and sustainable communities in the Jewish world and beyond.
