Querencia at barton creek collects donations for hurricane ike Relief at “Fall Parade of homes”
AUSTIN, Nov. 10, 2008: Residents of Querencia at Barton Creek retirement resortrecently opened their homes to friends, family members, neighbors, guests at the community’s “Fall Parade of Homes.”The home tour not only gave the community an opportunity to showcase many of the 19 unique floor plans offered at Querencia, it also served to collect much-needed donations for the Capital Area of Food Bank of Texas (CAFB) “Hurricane Ike Disaster Relief” campaign.
“It is important to Querencia residents and staff alike to support those in need,” said Leslie Dominguez, director of marketing at Querencia. “As a community, we strive to encourage the altruistic passions of our residents by supporting their causes. Many of our residents and staff members have friends and family members who were affected by Hurricane Ike, including our own sister community The Buckingham in Houston, so it seemed fitting to designate the ‘Fall Parade of Homes’ as a benefit for victims of Ike.”
In lieu of an employee appreciation luncheon for National Housekeeping Professionals Week, the Querencia housekeeping team chose to use the allotted funds to contribute to Hurricane Ike relief efforts. Together, the team purchased non-perishable food items, diapers, and other necessities for victims of the storm.
“Hurricane Ike had a dramatic impact on so many lives, and almost all of the members of our team have close friends or family members who were affected,” said Nelda Rivas, director of housekeeping at Querencia. “We all agreed that in times such as these it is important that we all do our part, no matter how big or small, to help those in need.”
In addition to touring the apartment homes and villas at Querencia and dropping off donation items, guests enjoyed lively music by pianist David Greenfield Bowie, door prizes and refreshments.
CAFBis in its 27th year of service and currently provides food and grocery products to 355 partner agencies in 21 Central Texas counties. The mission ofCAFB is to nourish hungry people and lead the community in ending hunger.
