Universal Expectation: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Cooperative.
Name of Skill/ Setting: LOCKER ROOM.
Purpose of the lesson/ why it is important.1. To teach that locker room is a place where students need to shower, change clothes, and use the restroom in a timely and appropriate manner.
2. To teach students to respect each other’s personal space and personal property.
3. To maintain a safe, healthy, and clean environment for all within the Kali School in both the gymnasium and pool areas.
Teaching Examples
1. The students should understand that the locker room is a place to properly use the restroom, shower, and change clothes.
2. The students should understand the need to secure all personal items in the lockers or in a gym bag or backpack, and not leave them out for others to see.
3. The students should understand that they must use the locker room in a timely manner, and to keep the shower and restroom areas of the locker room clean.
4. The students should understand the need to report any problems and issues of misuse of the locker room to the principal, coach, or Kali School staff member.
Student activities/ role plays
1. Discuss why it is important to properly use the locker room.
2. Discuss how maintaining a clean environment helps you to take pride in yourself and your school.
3. Ask students to verbalize school expectations before using the locker room.
4. Identify examples of disrespect to property in the locker room, (graffiti, opening soap dispenser, stopping up toilets, leaving the water on in the shower, leaving personal items on the benches) and ask students to verbalize appropriate alternatives.
5. Have a discussion with students about the proper use of locker room facilities and identify the consequences endured by all as a result of inappropriate use.
Follow up/ Reinforcement Activities:
1. Praise the students who you know have used the locker room facilities timely and appropriately.
2. Praise your students when the class or team as a whole leaves the locker room clean.
3. Let your students know that you appreciate that they are doing their part in respecting personal space and personal items of other students.
