SECTION 11170

WASTE HANDLING SYSTEM

Part 1 – GENERAL

1.01  SUMMARY: Division 1 applies to this Section. Provide waste compactor system, installed in place and operable.

1.  Section 03300 “Cast in Place Concrete” - Concrete slab, minimum 6” thick of reinforced 3,000 psi concrete.

2.  Division 16 “Electrical” - Electrical power service and final connections to electrically operated equipment.

3.  Division 15 “Mechanical” - Plumbing water and drains for compactor area.

1.02  SUBMITTALS: Refer to Section 01330 for procedures.

A.  Product Data: Submit manufacturer’s product specifications, performance data sheets and installation instructions.

B.  Shop Drawings: Submit plans, elevations, and details for work not fully shown by published product data; include rough in dimensions, service connection and required clearances for equipment service and operation.

C.  Contract Closeout Submittals:

1.  Comply with requirements of Section 01770.

2.  Operation and Maintenance Manuals: Manuals shall contain manufacturer’s printed operating instructions and maintenance requirements for each piece of equipment. Included data for controls and wring diagrams.

1.03  QUALITY ASSURANCE

A.  Qualifications

1.  Manufacturer: Firm shall have at least 5 years experience in the manufacture of the specified equipment, have a record of successful in-service performance and shall maintain a servicing and replacement parts system for at least 3 years after installation of equipment.

2.  Installer: Engage an experienced installer who is an authorized representative of the waste compactor manufacturer for both the installation and maintenance of the type of equipment required for this Project.

B.  Standards: The equipment, and the equipment installation, to be provided under this Section shall conform to ANSI Z245.1 Safety Standard in addition to all codes, laws and regulations pertaining.


1.04 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING: Handle and deliver equipment to the site according to manufacturer’s recommendations. Factory protect and handle painted metal products to prevent damage or defacing.

1.05 PROJECT/SITE CONDITIONS: Coordinate installation with all related trades. Protect installed unit until completion of entire Work.

1.06 WARRANTY: Conform to Section 01790. Contractor and manufacturer shall warranty all equipment provided under this Section against malfunction or the failure of any structural part for (3) three years with an additional (2) years coverage on a prorated basis, component parts for (3) three years with an additional (2) years coverage on a prorated basis, with warranty labor limited to (1) one year under the warranty.

Part 2 - PRODUCTS

1.01  MANUFACTURER: Pacific Compactor Corp./Nedland Industries, (800-458-8832), no substitution.

1.02  EQUIPMENT DESCRIPTION: Provide Model NC-50 Stationary Compactor with 2 CY receiver container conforming to the requirements specified.

Part 3 - EXECUTION

3.01 EXAMINATION: Inspect the areas and conditions under which units are to be installed. Do not proceed with the work until conditions are satisfactory.

3.02 INSTALLATION: Equipment shall be installed in accordance with approved drawings and manufacturer’s instructions.

3.3 DEMONSTRATION: Upon completion of the installation and at a time convenient to the Owner, furnish the services of a manufacturer’s authorized representative to instruct the Owner’s personnel in operating and maintenance procedures, troubleshooting, cleaning and other procedures recommended by the manufacturer to assure satisfactory equipment operation.
