Purpose of theRole

The Communications Lead is responsible for all communication requirements of the Merton LGBT+ Forum including the website, IT requirements, social media, PR & media activity and printed materials.

Role Responsibilities

  • To work with the Chair on the strategic positioning of the Forum through public statements including the drafting of press release when required
  • Act as an official spokesperson for the Forum when required
  • To oversee all communications requirements, including the commissioning of printed materials, for the Forum’s various projects and initiatives including social activities, health promotion, the younger person’s group (Open Door) and activities for older people
  • To manage and develop the website, ensuring that it remains fresh, relevant and accessible, liaising as necessary with other officers of the Forum to ensure that content is updated regularly
  • To be responsible for overseeing all social media and ensuring that the work of the Forum is regularly advertised through all available means
  • To have responsibility for the Forum’s IT equipment, including all laptops and printers, ensuring that these are accounted for, used appropriately, remain updated and secure (in terms of anti-virus software)
  • To manage the Forum’s IT requirements, including email addresses and their allocation and make recommendations for updating equipment as required
  • Otherwise as discussed and in agreement with the Chair and/or Board

Experience

The ideal candidate will have demonstrable general experience of web management, IT, social media and the overall communications function, gained either through paid professional or other voluntary work.

They need to be confident, a good public speaker, able to use their own initiative, a willing team player, committed to equality and diversity and aware of the needs of the LGBT+ community, including those that do not necessarily openly identify as such.
