Activity:Powerball

Purpose: Make as many baskets as possible while preventing scores

Prerequisites:Football

Materials Needed:4 Foam Footballs; Flag Belts (16 Red; 16 Yellow)

Number of Participants: Each class will have 4 boy and 4 girl representatives; (Students participating must wear tennis shoes)

How to Play: Participants will line up underneath one of the side goals in the gym, on the whistle, participants will attempt to run across the court to drop the football in the bucket without getting their flag pulled. The bucket will be set up under the side goal. If their flag is pulled, they must return to their half of the court and run to the hula hoop in the back-left corner to put the belt back on. Players will not be allowed to put on the belt anywhere other than the hula hoop on their own side of the court. Teams are not allowed to pull the other team’s flag belt until they pass half court, if they do there will be one penalty point added to the other team. Players are only allowed to pull the flag of a person in possession of the ball, if they pull anybody else’s flag there will be one penalty point added to the other team. Teams are allowed to pass the ball to a teammate, but they are not allowed to make an overhand throw/pass, it must be underhanded or a chest pass. An illegal pass will result in the other team automatically getting possession of the ball. If the ball hits the ground, regardless of who touched it last, it will go to the team that did not throw the ball. The defense must be standing AT LEAST one arm’s length away from the bucket at all times, if they are inside of one arm’s length they are considered to be “goal tending” and a penalty point will be added to the other team. If a ball is thrown into the container, and it bounces out, there will be no point awarded. If a team knocks over the container, there will be no point awarded. The only people allowed to remove a ball from a bucket is the team the bucket belongs to. One person is NOT allowed to have more than one ball at a time. There will be no diving/sliding allowed, this is a NON CONTACT sport. The boys and girls will be competing as two separate contests, with separate winners for each. Each basket is worth one point, regardless of which game they are involved in (girls/boys game). Each game will last two (2) minutes, the girls will play the first game each time. As soon as the girl’s game is over, the guys should report to the same court, ready to play.
