Overview

This specification is for a wireless handheld controller for airfield lighting and is herein referred to as the “HHC”. The HHC shall be of rugged, weatherproof military-grade construction and provide on-command control of the airfield via encrypted signals.

1.0 Mechanical

The HHC shall comply with the following specifications:

  • Housing Die-cast aluminum
  • Military green
  • Weight: 1.36 kg (3 lb.)
  • Dimensions: 4 X 8 X 2.5inches (10.16 x 20.32 x 6.35 cm) (excluding antenna)
  • Waterproof Tested to Condition B, Method 104A of MIL-STD-202 (IP67 Equivalence)
  • Military Grade construction
  • Gore™ venting
  • Shock and vibration
  • The operating temperature range shall be -40 to 140 ˚F (-40 to 60 ˚C)
2.0 Antenna

The HHC antenna shall comply with the following specifications:

  • Omni-directional, 1/2 wave dipole, 50-ohm
  • Removable
  • HHC range can be increased through the use of optional extension coaxial cable

3.0Controller Interface

The HHC controller interface shall provide the user the following:

  • Variable intensity LED backlit silicone keypad
  • On power up, all buttons illuminate to confirm all backlighting is operating correctly
  • LEDs to indicate active control groups

4.0 Radio

The HHC radio module shall comply with the following requirements:

  • FCC certified
  • Transmission Range of up to 4 km (2.5 miles)
  • 902-928MHz ISM band
  • FHSS (Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum) using 50 channels
  • Point to Multipoint
  • Transmit power of 1 W
  • Multiple retransmits to ensure signal receipt by airfield equipment
  • Shall not use mesh network because of the vulnerability to intermediary light failure

5.0 Batteries and Electrical

The HHC battery system shall comply with the following requirements:

  • Type:lithium ion, long cycle life series
  • Voltage:3.75 V
  • Capacity:6800 mAh
  • Battery Life:
  • 12 Hours (1 operation per minute)
  • 1250 Hours (storage)
  • Recharge time: 5 hours
  • External charger included with HHC(12Volt DC output / 100-240VAC50/60Hz input, international tips)
  • The battery shall be rechargeable, replaceable, and recyclable
  • The manufacturer shall offer complete battery replacement kits
  • The HHC shall provide indicator LEDs for battery charging and charge status

6.0 Connectors

The HHC shall be equipped with the following three (3) military-grade electrical connectors:

  • ARCAL Control Input
  • 12 Volt DC Power Supply input
  • RS-232 Bi-Directional Serial Data

7.0 Feature Control

The HHC shall offer the following feature set:

  • 256-bit AES secure encryption
  • Emergency Flash (max brightness, flashing)
  • Instant Airfield Blackout or Infrared for immediate threat response
  • Define up to 8 separate groups for individualized control
  • Capable of Flashing individual airfield groups 0.25 sec ON 0.75 sec OFF)

  • ARCAL Pilot airfield control when HHC is connected to commercial ARCAL VHF equipment.

8.0PC-Based Software

The HHC shall be capable of PC software control via the built-in RS-232 data connection.

10.0 Approvals

The HHC shall be FCC and ANATEL certified.

11.0 Quality Assurance

The HHC, except for the battery pack, shall be guaranteed for a minimum of three (3) years. The battery pack shall be guaranteed for one (1) year.

The manufacturer shall be ISO 9001 certified.
