God's Valentine Gift

God's Valentine gift of love to us

Was not a bunch of flowers;

It wasn't candy, or a book

To while away the hours

His gift was to become a man,

So he could freely give

His sacrificial love for us,

So you and I could live.

He gave us sweet salvation, and

Instruction, good and true--

To love our friends and enemies

And love our Savior, too.

So as we give our valentines,

Let's thank our Lord and King.

The reason we have a love to give

Is that he gave us everything.

Souper Bowl Sunday will be the first Sunday in February, February 4th, and it is time to gather up cans of soup and boxes of crackers to donate to Doorstep. When you bring them in on the day of the Super Bowl, there will be two boxes just inside the main entrance. Each of the boxes will be labeled for which Super Bowl team it represents, the New England Patriots or the Philadelphia Eagles. Please put your donations in the box that represents the team you will be cheering for. The cans of soup, in each box, will be counted and an announcement made to let everyone know which team gathered the most soup cans.

~ Mission Committee

As a part of the Souper Bowl activity, members of the Fellowship Committee will be providing the treats following worship. There will be five pots of soup along with other side dishes. Everyone is welcome to join us in Fellowship Hall to enjoy the food and spend time with your fellow church friends discussing which team is going to win, the Patriots or the Eagles

Doorstep

February is a busy month for Doorstep! We have SouperBowl Sunday, February 4thwhere we ask our member congregations to collect soup and crackers to help stock our food pantry! Our goal for 2018 is 4 1/2 ton… 9,000 pounds! Last year’s goal was 4 ton, and we received 8,491 pounds!! Watch for sales and bring donations to your congregation, or to Doorstep directly! You exceeded last year’s goal ~ Let’s do it again!

The month of February brings cold weather, and what is better on a cold day than hot soup and chili! One of Doorstep’s major fundraisers, Operation Soup Line, is in its 15th year! Mark your calendars for Wednesday, February 28th. We will have lunch and carry out available this year. As always, we will offer delivery on orders of 10 or more during lunchtime (11am – 1:30pm). We will have celebrity servers, entertainment, and the theme basket silent auction. Food will be available from 11:00am – 2:00pm.

Ticket price is $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. You will receive your choice of soup or chili, dessert and a drink. We hope you will plan to attend and support Doorstep’s fundraiser by coming to the Ag Hall on February 28th! The funds raised at this event are used to help our neighbors in need with emergency services, and agency needs throughout the year.

Finally, Thank You to everyone who participated in Doorstep’s Christmas Store this past December! We provided gifts and food to 259 households with 824 individuals! We could not have accomplished this without the help of dedicated volunteers and donors who wanted to help their neighbors in need at Christmastime!

Men's and Ladies' Groups

The Men's and Ladies Groups met at Banjos on January 19th for their monthly get together for food and fellowship. We continue to meet every third Friday at Banjos at 11:30. Come and join us - bring a friend. Our next meeting will be February 16th.

Thank You For Your Service

Thank you to the following who served as Elders, but whose term ended or will not be returning to the board: Martin Ahrens and Hal Gardner ended athree-year term and did not renew. The service of these Elders is appreciated by all. Kathy Fuller, class of 2017, ended a three term, but agreed to renew for a second term, which isfor the class of 2020. Bill DeShazer ended a one-year term and agreed to renew for a three-year term, class of 2020.

Financial Reminders:

Per Capita for 2018 is $30.53 per member and due to the Presbytery by March 31st. If you can help us by donating to cover the members in your household, it would appreciated! If it seems like you just heard about Per Capita, you are correct! Even though it is due on March 31st, we paid it extremely late last year and were still receiving contributions from members in December for 2017 Per Capita. I would like to try to have it paid on time this year so it doesn't effect our ability to do other mission work throughout the rest of the year if possible. We pay Per Capita based upon reported membership from two years ago so there are always some who are no longer with us for whom the church has to cover so any help you can give is appreciated!

Also, a reminder. I have the ability to direct debit your pledge in the same manner as utility payments, insurance, mortgages, etc. now use regularly. While the church is grateful to receive your contribution in any manner you so choose, this method helps to receive it on a regular basis if you are traveling or unable to attend church for any other reason. Pledge payments on a regular basis are now important and directly effect my ability to pay our bills on time. I can setup the bank drafts to happen on any day or schedule that works for you. Please see me or email me at if you are interested in finding out more.

Thank You

Dear St. Andrews Friends,

I can’t thank you enough for your thoughts, prayers, cards and visits. I truly felt surrounded by love and concern. Particular thanks to the special angel who got me to the ER and those who braved the bitter cold to visit. You are a wonderful church family.

Blessings to you all.

Pray for Marine 2nd Lt. Randy Luedke and the other active duty and veteran personnel, firefighters, EMTs, and police officers. Pray for peace for those countries suffering from war and conflict; the ongoing conflicts and violence in our own community and country, all our government officials, the hungry and the homeless.

SESSION HIGHLIGHTS-January 21, 2018.

  • Year end balances: $4,873.86 (total of several savings accounts); $5,205.41-Bagby endowment; $3,106.00 - memorial fund. Total general fund income for the year was $74,333.89, total expense for the year was $76,890.99.
  • After review of several options, approved final budget of $78,248.98, which has a $6298.98 deficit. It hoped to be able to overcome that deficit with additional income.
  • Discussed trying to offer fellowship hall for use by groups which would increase income. Will need to review building use policy and determine amount to charge for use of the facility.
  • Doorstep has requested the use of Fellowship Hall for their annual volunteer banquet which will probably be in April
  • Fleece blanket kits purchased to put together as prayer shawls.
  • Pastor Stacey and Matthew Reynolds will be working on a confirmation class.
  • Discussed establishing a savings fund which would be for replacing heating/AC units which are aging. Being old makes them less efficient which adds to our overall costs.
  • Betty DeShazer, Dianne Deuser and Jo Ann Miller will co-chair the Fellowship Committee.
  • Charles will be moderator Stewardship and Finance Committee.
  • Ash Wednesday will be February 14th.
  • Next Communion will be February 4th.
