ONTARIO CHESS TOURNAMENT INVITATION

THURSDAY, APRIL 12, 2018

Dear Member Schools,

ACSI Eastern Canada’s Ontario Chess Tournamentwill take place on Thursday, April 12,2018 at Brampton Christian School from 9:15a.m. to 2:00 p.m.Registration begins at 9:15 a.m.We hope that your school will be able to participate.

Elementary Chess Teams may include students up to and including Grade 5. Junior Teams may include up to and including Grade 8. Senior Teams may include up to and including Grade 12.Note: Teams may consist of fewer than four players if the school is unable to fill a team to capacity. You may “reach down” to the lower grades to fill up the older teams if you chose.

The tournament will be a 5 Minute Speed control with each player playing their opponents twice, once with white pieces and once with black pieces. In this way each round is only a maximum of 20 minutes if both players take all their time. It also increases the number of games that each player plays. Because fewer schools send senior students, they will play a round-robin tournament (UNLESS ENOUGH SCHOOLS AND STUDENTS COME, THEN IT WILL BE A SWISS TOURNAMENT).

Barry Thorvardson, former president of the Ontario Chess Association (OCA), will be our Tournament Director.Barry will be responsible for all pairings, scorings, rankings, and rulings.

Included in this package are materials that give detailed instructions about this event. As well, these materials can be accessed on our website( StudentsStudent Activities.
