PUBLIC RELATIONS / PROGRAMS COORDINATOR

JOB DESCRIPTION

Position: Exempt

Reports to: President/CEO

Purpose: Toassist with United Way of Hays County’s year-round resource development and fundraising activities, including but not limited to workplace campaigns, special events, direct mail solicitation, public relations and marketing in order to generate financial resources to meet the organization’s mission. In addition, this position coordinates daily program operations and partner relations as well as provides general support to help facilitate UWHC-managed programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written), including public speaking experience to a variety of audience types.
  • A thorough working knowledge of fundraising practices, procedures and philosophies.
  • Ability to build relationships with community groups, agencies, organizations, businesses and institutions.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage several projects simultaneously, manage time effectively, meet deadlines and pay careful attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively on a team and possess a positive “can-do” attitude.
  • Strong computer skills with expertise in Windows and Microsoft Office, some knowledge of Adobe Suite products is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to design, write and create basic marketing materials.
  • Experience in special event planning a plus.
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs, have a current driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Essential Functions

  • Work with the CEO to develop a marketing and communications plan that ensures that the UWHC marketing strategy is effectively integrated intothe resource development plan.
  • With the CEO, manage communications resources such as brochures, pledge forms, manuals, annual report, video, website, e-newsletter, mailings and social media.
  • With the CEO and event chairs, plan, prepare, carry out and evaluate all special events.
  • Contribute to a healthy organizational culture and achievement of the organization’s mission through utilization of established lines of communication, professional attitude toward job tasks, participation in UWHC events and staff meetings, and respectful behavior toward all.
  • Provide programmatic support for any/all UWHC-managed programs in the areas of financial stability, income and health
  • Collect data for the evaluation of UWHC Community Programs
  • Provide monthly and annual programmatic updates
  • Oversee teacher/school activities and relations, including scheduling of visits for reading events and Lunch Learn LIVE UNITED presentations
  • Coordinate daily operations of the READ, TUTOR, MENTOR initiatives, including, but not limited to reading events, school presentations, volunteer recruitment and training
  • Maintain systems for the general operations of the READ TUTOR MENTOR initiatives, including partner relations, data maintenance, ordering of supplies, book sorting and distribution
  • Support the resource development efforts by building relationships to create new and maintain existing partnerships, including public presentations, tours, data for grant writing
  • Represent UWHC at community meetings/networks/collaborative efforts that impact the areas of Education, Health and Financial Stability
  • Assist with the development and implementation of new programs, including the areas of program evaluation, collaboration, logistics, budgeting and reporting.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of special events and activities, including planning, logistics, volunteer involvement, etc.
  • Assist with grant writing to support the department’s programs and activities
  • Secures and manages all school and community MOU’s and maintains all data for use in grant applications and reports
  • Communicates with CEO on a weekly basis concerning site or individual issues or new projects;
  • Other duties as assigned by President/CEO
