I. Review minutes from 05/06/2015
· Approved as read
II. Orientation Video
· The group discussed the delivery of the new orientation video. Each video will have a slightly different format and be no more than five minutes long.
o The Welcome Video – A brief welcome from Pam. Tracy and Pam will work together to create this video in the coming month.
o Capstones – this video will be broken down into three different subtopics – practicum, professional paper and portfolio. This way, students can view them as they become relevant to their studies. All videos will address the written and presentation portion of the capstone. Tovah may explore using a “split screen,” format for recording these videos. The Institute on Transitional Health Sciences has some good examples of how to do a split screen video https://www.iths.org/
o Student Life-- interview students from different backgrounds about their experiences in the program.
o Global Health – Highlight past students international practicums.
o Moodle—a brief Moodle tutorial.
· Previously, Pam spoke with the School of Journalism to see if they might have any students interested in producing our orientation videos. Unfortunately, since school is ending, there are no students looking for a project.
· We will create a space on the webpage for students to provide feedback on the orientation videos.
· Pam and Tracy will work together on the new “welcome” video. New orientation videos will be posted as they become available.
III. Other Items
· PhD Program Update (from Dr. Ward)
The affiliated faculty met on may 27, and provided additional input into the proposal. The proposal was finalized and forwarded to Dean Humphrey for his review. Once we get his comments, we can forward to the provosts office. Things are moving forward.
· The University is piloting a text book rental program with incoming freshman. This may end up being a better value for undergraduate students. However, it may be a problem for graduate students who prefer to keep their text books.
o If PHSA wants to have a voice about these types of issues they should consider sending a representative to the Graduate Student Association meetings.
· Sharing Practicum Experiences at the Graduate Student and Faculty Research Conference.
o Nothing happened on this topic this year, but we should keep it in mind in future years. Since out of town students may be traveling to Missoula for the conference it is a good time to bring students together.
· Next meeting scheduled for June 17th.
