Dear Colleague,

As you’ll probably soon start planning your trip to Puławy, here’s some basic information you may find useful.

The address of the IUNG Conference Center in Puławy is Królewska 17; telephone numbers: 081-887-7306 and 081-887-7307. Conference registration desk will open on April 26 at 11:00. The opening ceremony has been scheduled for 3:00 p.m.

If you’re flying into Warsaw, and want to continue by train (a more comfortable option) the Warszawa Centralna train station in downtown Warsaw can be reached by city bus no 175 (a 20-25 minute ride) or by taxi. We recommend taking a taxi from the taxi stand outside the Arrivals hall. Taxi drivers who will offer their services inside the hall as a rule grossly overcharge. A reasonable daytime taxi fare to Warszawa Centralna is 25-30 złotys. Nighttime rates (between 22:00 and 6:00) are higher. Bus tickets can be bought at newspaper stands in the Arrivals hall.

Once in Puławy, you may again take a taxi (7-10 złotys) or city bus no. 5 The taxi stand and the bus stop are outside the railway station.

The revised Conference program is available at the website of the Polish Association of Canadian Studies at <www3.uj.edu.pl/ISR/kanada/2007pulawy.htm>

Although we hope that there will be no more changes in the order of sessions and presentations, some last minute reshuffling is always to be reckoned with.

As most hotel rooms are double, please let us know, if possible, who you’d like to share the room with. Also, if you’re a vegetarian, we can arrange for you to have vegetarian meals.

We encourage those of you who will have some extra time before or after the conference to make a short trip to Kazimierz, a pretty, historical town and an artist colony only 12 kilometers away from Puławy. Kazimierz can be reached by city bus no. 12, departing from the Puławy railway station. The ticket is 3 złotys one way. 2 hours should be enough to see the town, unless you want to visit the local Museum of Silver or stop for a meal or explore the galleries.

If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to write and ask. We’ll be happy to help you. To ensure prompt communication, please send all enquiries in English or in Polish directly to Joanna Durczak

Looking forward to meeting you,

Joanna Durczak
