Relevant Experience (max 100 words)
I trained in general practice before psychiatry training. Working in a Tier 3 teaching clinic, I am very aware of service pressures. I am particularly interested in cognitive- affective development, from infancy to adolescence both clinically and through published research. I believe services need a broad range of skills with good team-working as key. As chair of our local negotiating committee, I have seen through the recent contract negotiations and sit on our county-wide commissioning group. I am closely involved in higher training and teaching and organise the academic programme for our higher trainees.
Priorities/work plan/other comments (max 100 words)
We need a sustained policy of 10% year-on-year investment in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) for the next 10 years. My ‘Capacity and Workforce in CAMHS’ paper currently in press provides evidence for this, and this data contributed to ‘Tier 3 staffing recommendations’ in the National Service Framework and the imminent College paper ‘Capacity, Demand and Staffing’. An emphasis on both effective and efficient multi-disciplinary team-working combined with teaching, training and research are pivotal for future workforce development to build this capacity. I would be delighted if I could contribute further through the faculty executive.
