KDES/MSSD Outcomes with Standards

  1. Essential Knowledge - Students acquire essential knowledgeand skills in Language Arts, Studies, the Arts, Deaf Studies, Health, Physical Education,and Technology; and apply them in planning and carrying out complex projects.

  1. Communication – Students achieve, to the best of their ability, a full repertoire of linguistic and communicative competencies to use with both deaf and hearing people.

Standards:

  1. Student expresses and receives information.
  2. Student communicates in a variety of social, work, and family situations.
  3. Student identifies, obtains, and uses communication tools and technology.
  1. Thinking Skills – Students are critical, creative, and reflective thinkers, decision makers, and problem solvers who effectively cooperate and collaborate to achieve common goals in life situations and groupings which reflect cultural, social and academic diversity.

Standards:

  1. Student understands and applies critical thinking skills.

  1. Life Planning – Students design, refine, and initiate a life plan based on self -exploration and experience that incorporates a knowledge of their rights, available resources, and effective self-advocacy.

Standards:

  1. Student demonstrates the skills necessary to advocate for self.
  2. Student demonstrates knowledge of education and career exploration, preparation, and planning strategies.
  3. Student develops positive and practical work habits, skills, and attitudes within a work environment.
  4. Student demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to live independently and successfully.
  5. Student demonstrates knowledge of one’s community, one’s role in the community, and available resources in the community.
