PRSA Financial Communications Section Announces 2016 Executive Committee

Section welcomes new committee members Marci Schneider and Marta Elliott

NEW YORK, Feb. 02, 2016 — The Financial Communications Section of the Public Relations Society of America(PRSA) announces its Executive Committee leadership for 2016. In addition to existing board members, the Financial Communications Section welcomes Marci Schneider and Marta Elliott to section leadership.

New Executive Committee member is Marci Schneider is a consultant for Versatile Communications in Durham, N.C. Previously, she served in the Office of Public Affairs for the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in Washington D.C. for nearly 20 years. Before that Schneider was a public information representative at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas for 13 years. She also was an adjunct professor at George Washington University and the University of South Carolina. Schneider earned a master’s degree in marketing from Johns Hopkins University, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Southern Methodist University. Schneider will serve as Newsletter Chair on the Executive Committee.

Also joining the Executive Committee is Marta Elliott, public relations coordinator for United Federal Credit Union in St. Joseph, Mich. She previously worked at American Electric Power’s D.C. Cook Nuclear Plant as senior communications consultant for eight years. Before that Elliott was the owner and principal of Elliott Marketing & Communications Strategies for 10 years. She started her career as a news anchor and reporter for WNDU-TV, where she worked for 10 years. Elliott received a bachelor’s degree in communications and broadcast journalism from Indiana University.

Pamela Kearney, APR, will serve her second term as Section Chair. Kearney is director of Investor and Public Relations at Tortoise Capital Advisors in Leawood, Kan.

“We’re pleased to kick off 2016 with our dedicated team of industry leaders on the Financial Communications Executive Committee,” said Kearney.“We welcome our newest members Marta Elliott and Marci Schneider, who will bring a wealth of financial communications experience and passion for serving and supporting our section members.”

Stacy Schubert, director of Government Relations and Public Affairs for the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation in Anchorage, Alaska, was appointed Chair-Elect.

Kent Wissinger, Corporate Communications manager at Wilmington Trust in Wilmington, Del., serves as Past Chair.

Julia Shanahan was appointed Secretary for the Executive Committee. Shanahan is an assistant vice president in Corporate Communications for M&T Bank, based in Buffalo, N.Y.

Alexander Laskin, Ph.D., associate professor and director of Graduate Studies in Public Relations at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Conn., serves as Membership Chair for the Section.

Marcia DiStaso, Ph.D., APR, and Joseph Anthonywill serve as Programs/Professional Development Co-Chairs. DiStaso is associate professor of Public Relations at Penn State University, in University Park, Penn. Anthony is president of Financial PR at Gregory FCA Communications in Ardmore, Penn.
