OVERHEAD COILING DOORS
PART - GENERAL
SUMMARY
Section Includes:
Provide factory finish painted galvanized steel overhead coiling door where noted.
Provide stainless steel overhead coiling door where noted.
Provide aluminum overhead coiling door where noted.
Provide complete electric motor operator system for nonfire rated overhead coiling doors with motor operator to include motor, starter, reducer, brake, control station(s), and wireless monitored sensing edge.
Doors and components to be in compliance with UL325.
Provide anchorage, fasteners, support framing, and bracing to properly and securely install nonfire rated overhead coiling door components within building structure.
Work By Others: Work performed by Electrical Contractor under this Section.
SUBMITTALS
General Requirements: Provide submittals in accordance with Section 013300, unless otherwise indicated.
Shop Drawings:
Submit Shop Drawings for overhead coiling door and related components that are not fully dimensioned or detailed on manufacturer’s Product Data.

Include elevations, sections, and details indicating dimensions, materials, finishes, conditions for anchorage, and support of door.
Indicate anchorage methods and materials.
Product Data:
Submit manufacturer’s Product Data, roughin diagrams, and installation instructions for products being provided under this Section.
Provide wiring diagrams for motor operators.
Provide wiring diagrams for sensing edge and wireless monitoring system.
Samples: Submit color samples for selection of factory applied finish coating color.
Certification of Galvanized Steel: Provide mill certification for compliance of G90 galvanized steel.
Contract Closeout Submittals: Submit in accordance with Section 017700.
Maintenance and Operating Manuals: Submit complete manuals describing materials, devices, and procedures to be followed in operating and maintaining doors provided under this Section. Include manufacturer’s brochures and parts list describing actual materials used in product.
QUALITY ASSURANCE
General Requirements: Provide nonfire rated overhead coiling door as a complete unit furnished by one manufacturer, including hardware, accessories, and mounting and installation components.
Installer Qualifications: Employed by or approved by door manufacturer.
Regulatory Requirements: In accordance with applicable requirements of laws, codes, ordinances, and regulations of federal, state, and municipal authorities having jurisdiction. Provide required components to comply with those requirements.
DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING
Delivery and Handling: Deliver and store materials in manufacturer’s original packaging, labeled to show name, brand, and type.
Storage: Store materials in a protected dry location off ground in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.

FABRICATION OF GALVANIZED STEEL OVERHEAD COILING DOOR
Curtain:
Slat Material and Construction: Interlocking flat face slats, approximately 25/8inches wide, of cold roll formed from not less than 22gauge galvanized steel sheet metal.
Slat Ends: Provide ends of slats with fitted malleable iron endlocks to act as wearing surface in guides and to maintain slat alignment.
Bottom Bar: Reinforce bottom of curtain with (2) galvanized steel angles, not less than 1/8inch thick, placed back to back.
Guides: Fabricate from galvanized steel angles assembled to form a groove to receive end of door curtain.
Hood:
Fabricate hood from not less than 24gauge galvanized steel sheet metal.
Where hood will remain exposed, fabricate in a square/rectangular shape.
Laterally reinforce hood.
Hood up to 18feet wide to be of a single continuous sheet with no seams.
Provide intermediate support brackets for hood over 18feet in width, wherever seams exist.
Provide intermediate support brackets where required to prevent sag of hood.
At motor operated overhead coiling door where hood will remain exposed, provide hood enclosure for motor operator made of galvanized steel sheet metal with construction similar to hood over door.
Hood to cover door, tension shaft, and wheel.

Counterbalance Assembly:
Furnish with oil tempered helical torsion springs having a 25percent safety factor.
Fix springs to tapered cast anchors, permanently lubricate, and mount on a single solid torsion rod.
Attach torsion rod to spring tension adjustment wheel.
House assembly in steel pipe shaft of adequate diameter.
Deflection of shaft shall not exceed 0.03inch per foot of span.
Bracket Plates:
Fabricate from galvanized steel plate not less than 1/4inch thick.
Fill brackets with 4hole flange sealed ball bearings to support counterbalance assembly and curtain.
Brackets to form end closures and support hood.
Bolt brackets to rail guides with minimum 1/2inch fasteners.
Finishes:
Galvanized Surfaces to Receive Factory Applied Finish Coating:
Zinc coating of not less than 1.25ounce per square foot, rinsed and treated for paint adhesion.
Factory apply 2mils of epoxy primer and not less than 8mils of polyester paint finish in color selected by Architect.
Concealed Galvanized Surfaces: Zinc coating of not less than 1.25ounce per square foot.
Concealed Steel or Non-Galvanized Steel Surfaces: Factory apply a coat of rustinhibiting metallic primer.
Locking:
Not required with motor operator.
Slide bolts at bottom bar. Locate operation of bolts from secure side of door.

Keyed cylinder jamb locks at each end of bottom bar. Verify with Architect which side of door to install keyed lock cylinders if not indicated.

Curtain:

Laterally reinforce hood.
Hood up to 18feet wide to be of a single continuous sheet with no seams.
Provide intermediate support brackets for hood over 18feet in width, wherever seams exist.
Provide intermediate support brackets where required to prevent sag of hood.

FABRICATION OF ALUMINUM OVERHEAD COILING DOOR
Curtain:
Material and Construction: Curtain shall consist of interlocking aluminum slats of slat size, profile, and gauge recommended by manufacturer for door size.
Slat Ends: Provide ends of slats with fitted endlocks to act as wearing surface in guides and to maintain slat alignment.
Bottom Bar: Reinforce bottom of curtain with (2) aluminum angles, not less than 3/16inch thick, placed back to back.

Guides:
Fabricate from (3) aluminum angles bolted together to form a channel for door to travel.
Securely anchor guides to adjacent wall construction using appropriate fastening devices, of size and spacing to provide a rigid and secure installation.
Hood:
Fabricate exposed hood from aluminum sheet metal no lighter than 0.040inch thickness.
Hood above a suspended ceiling or otherwise concealed may be fabricated from not less than 24gauge galvanized steel sheet metal.
Where hood will remain exposed, fabricate in a square/rectangular shape.

Brackets shall form end closures and support hood.
Bolt brackets to rail guides with minimum 1/2inch fasteners.
Finish on brackets to be (1) coat of aluminum prime paint.
Finish:
Aluminum: 204RI clear anodized.
Galvanized Steel Materials: Zinc coating of not less than 1.25ounce per square foot.
Concealed Steel or Non-Galvanized Steel Surfaces: Factory apply a coat of rustinhibiting metallic primer.

ELECTRIC MOTOR OPERATOR SYSTEM
General Requirements:
Compact electrical motor operated power unit designed and built by or for door manufacturer.
Equip operator with an adjustable screwtype limit switch to break circuit at termination of travel.
Motor to be high efficiency planetary gearing type running in an oil bath, with a centrifugal governor, springset solenoid operated brake, and a failsafe magnetic release device, completely housed to protect against damage, dust, and moisture.
Operator to be NEMA Type1 enclosure.
Provide, as an integral part of unit, an efficient overload protection device which will break power circuit and protect against damage to motor windings.
Locate operator on secure side of door unless otherwise indicated or required to accommodate adjacent building construction.
Motor:
Motor to be a totally enclosed, fan cooled, continuous duty, thermally protected, ball bearing type with ClassA or better insulation.
Single phase motor to be capacitor start. Polyphase to be squirrel cage induction.
Motor Electrical Requirements:
Motor of Less Than 1/2Horsepower: Provide 120volt, single phase, 60Hertz, high starting torque type electric motor.
Motor of 1/2Horsepower and More: Provide [208] [480] volt, [single] [three]phase, 60Hertz, high starting torque type electric motor.

Include prewired electrical chassis, NEMA TypeI enclosure, emergency hand chain operator independent of motor, hand chain safety interlock, worm gearing in oil bath, solenoid brake, magnetic acrosstheline starter, overload protection, geared limit switch adjustable for fully open or close cutout.
Preassemble motor operator and prewire to terminal strip.
Starter: Size “00” magnetic reversing starter, across the line type with mechanical and electrical interlocks, with 10amp continuous rating and 24volt control circuit.
Reducer: Planetary gear type, 90percent efficiency minimum, 77:1 reduction.
Brake: Double shoe type, continuous duty, solenoid activated, integral within operator’s housing.
Control Station:
Rotary Type Control Switch: 3position rotary switch having a center off position with a spring (deadman) return from left side (down) and right side (up) contacts.
